7.2 Volt 6 Cell Mod Steering Chatter

to anyone who has done the 6 cell mod, does your XMod's steering chatter like it's trying to center? if i turn teh steering or lightly nudge the front wheel, the chattering stops.

oh yeah, i just checked the light connector with my DMM, the reason things get fried is because there's over 7 volts coming out of that connector

yes my servo chatters its not usually a issue as in about 1 min after the car is on its driving around. and yes over 7 volts comes out of the conector were the lighs plug in.but the little chip on the lights knocks that voltage down to a usable voltage. I mean its entirely possable thing could die but their should be no reason the raido should be damaged i do not see why the only reason i can see is if power was feeding back into the system some how. Ill investgate more my self.

hmm, maybe the people who had fried their cars with the 6 cells and the lights had parts on their ESC that were on the low end of what RS deemed acceptable in their so-called "Quality Control" and thus the 6 cells brought it right to the edge and the light kit jus kicked it over and killed it. so far i heard of 3 people who returned/exchanged their xmod cuz they fried it and 2 or 3 people who's running lights with the 6 cells so it's like a 50/50 thing. i might try it later but if i fry it, yeesh, gotta wait til they come out with the ESC repalcement or else shell out 50 bucks for another chassis =T

i don't think the command light is doing anything to regulate voltage. all it is on that little board are two transistors, two caps, two resistors, some traces and the wires. i would think the transistors would burn out if it wasn't designed for 7 volts (IE radioshack used cheapest parts possible)

Just seems kinda nutzo I have never seen a 7 volt led only seen 3.6 5v and 12 volt and usually a 5 volt item would crash and die at 7 volts .. lol this is were it would be nice to see a Skim on how the entire car was built all the bits and pices.

led's are a mixed bag to me, i bought the brightest blue led radioshack had (3500 mcd or so) and was rated for 5 volts. well, i hooked it up in my computer to let me know if a fan is turned on or not and well, it's getting 12 volts for the past couple of years and it hasn't burned out. on the other hand, i tested out a couple diff yellow led's from radioshack, which btw, was NOT yellow, it was amber!!, anyway, i bumped it tiny bit over 2 volts (rated for 2 volts max) and it blew out. returned both

yeah, it'll be safe. if you just got your xmod and you don't mind exchanging it, you could try the light kit for yourself if you desired.

well, bit the bullet and i'm glad to say, NOTHING got fried when i plugged in my light kit. couldn't test brake lights cuz the wire on the chassis' connector has been loose for a long time and soldering/desoldering it over and over couldn't fix it (though pressing down on the plug worked at one point but not anymore).
