The reason for a rear spoiler on a FWD car is better road handling at high speeds. The downforce pushes the rear tires onto the pavement and helps to keep them there when the car is going around a curve at 80 mph.
That is the very reason that Audi added a spoiler to the TT. It kept spinning out at high speeds.

I hate ricers and importors let me make that clear. The RESON why they have the spolier on there cars is for looks but it can server a porduse cause all the weight is in the front and know weight in the back. BUT most ricers have nitro and subers in the trunk so no it dose it serve a damn propose.

Actually, a spoiler -can- help a car even at speeds of under 140mph, so long as it's an aerodynamically correct spoiler. But, on an FWD car, a spoiler should always be coupled with a front splitter. The goal is to make the entire car get pushed lower to the ground, not just the back. While having the spoiler and splitter introduce a certain level of drag on the car, pushing the car down lower gives you more aerodynamic (and handling) benefit than the drag takes away.
SCCA Pro Touring cars are mostly FWD, and every last one of them has a spoiler and a splitter. They don't go 200mph, they rarely break 150mph on straights.

Heh, I wasn't talking about the obscene spoilers you see on Civics. You are right, those are for decoration. I was just talking about legitimate reasons for spoilers on FWD cars in general.
Oh, and since we're on the topic, have y'all seen this page?
Here's a sample:

Speed D I feel like The imports think they are the first to mod cars and they are the best. I have been building hotrods since 92 and grew up Dirt Track racing. I really get annoyed by these imports thinking they are all that when all they are is copy cats of what we have been doing to Domestics for decades. Big wings SUPER B had a bing wing. Stickers all race cars of the past had stickers Clear light is that not a euro thing not Jap.
Now to the Stang I drive Show me an import that can beat me.
Rules to my race you will need to be able to drive it 30 miles and it has to be street leagle. working everything light signals etc...
Dot tires. I GAURANTEE I WILL HAND ANY IMPORT HIS A** under this criteria.
Someone always says well there are drag imports running 8's 9's well hell man Pro 5.O cars run 6's at 200 mph plus My Car is ten second car. So anyone wanting a shot at it let me know!!!!!
e-mail me to race Micro's I am ddoggpitz@hotmail.com
If read that correctly I am an owner of some I finest Bulldogs around If you have interest in one drop me aline
SNOOP DOGG only wished he had dogs like mine Big Boi PLEASE!!!
These dogs are for real!!!!!!!

Hey TEAM_NITRO
I don't street race. I can't afford any more points on my license. I also think that is dangerous to the racers and the general public. If you were talking about taking it to a track sorry, my mistake.
I guarantee that you would leave ME in the dust. I drive a POS right now.
As far as modding goes, If it doesn't help performance, why bother. (ie clear tail lights)
I'll e-mail you about racing micros.

Looking for your e-mail!!!!!
I was not challenging you personally in a race. I trew that out for anyone. Street racing for a 1/4 mile is safe if you use radio's to keep the roads in check. Besides I live in small town!!!! Not much traffic. Indy is a bit different cops everywhere even more people DANGER DANGER DANGER LOL

All this talk of Civics and Stangs makes me giggle. I drive a worked over Jeep Wrangler that can get the front tires off the ground from a dead stop and can spin the tires into 4th gear, top that. </brag>
