There's nothing wrong with posting work-in-project pics

im still on the drawing board; well pretty much done with the planing, i have gathered almost all the supplies. what i need to do now is cut out my chassis, and tube the axles. the rest is pretty much trial and error.
i would post pics but my camera is to sum up in one word: crap. i am saving up to buy another one with bettere resolution so i can post really detailed pics so everyone can copy me. lol.
ill try to cut out my chassis this weekend and put it toghether. (this will probably be very time consuming since i want to seal out all entries to the chassis except by the top, where the pcb will be protected, so when it get full of mud and dirt, the inner mechanis will be same.)
the other most time consuming part will be the front axle, it is probably the biggest pain in the...well you know where im going.
i am pretty excited about this project and have decided to put aside my xmods hummer project for this mod.

Cool keep us posted.
I have started cutting a test chassis out of plastic and I need to get to work on the steering knuckles.
Mine is going to be an all out ON road racer with independant suspension/bearings and it must all fit under a Stock ZZ body.
The steering knuckles will be the hardest to make by far.
I'll post pics when I have something worth posting.lol

COOL post some pics or links to pics.
Here is a link to a very rough drawing of mine. There are a few other pics in that album of it.
Thats close to what it will look like.I'm cutting a test chassis out by hand now and will make a few changes, i also have to make the steering knuckles and fine tune the suspension arms a bit.

very cool plans, i wish i would be that planned out, but really, i just want simplicity, and its my first completly custom build.
what are you guys going to use for the knuckles?? i am using the stock knuckles and modifying them sincei wont be using bearings.
im that plan of yours, Rcdabbler, wouldnt the front end loose a lot of power since the shaft is so long?? it just looks like it will power, and looks like an xmod gen 1.
i gotta see if i can cut my chassis out, it gonna have 1 clearance and about 1.2-1.3 cm of suspension travel.
i want to make a rear leaf spring suspension...any ideas??? i was thinking of using the metal from those wind up toys, and make a simple tiny shackle.
gonna take a lot of work, better get started!!!

I have to make custom knuckles. Not exactly sure what they will be made of, most likely plastic or copper/brass.I'm going to work on them tonight and I hope to get the chassis somewhat assembled.
I dont think it will lose power, the center shaft is only about 30MM long.I think the bearings will more than compensate any center shaft performance loss.I suppose I could always go all out on the next ones I make and use Carbon Fiber.

the only thing that i have no idea how im going to make is the axle dogbones, i could probably make them, except i have no idea what to make them out of. this project should be done by december-january the latest, since i am simultaniously working on my xmods hummer.
as you can probably tell from the pics, it is not as tall or as wide (not nearly) as a ZZmt. what i was thinking about was what tranny to use. i will probably use either the ZZmt 3 gear tranny or a hand-built tranny out of 4 ZZse gears.
i have decided to use 1mm or 2mm thick lexan for the chassis and make an aluminum steel plate for the underbelly. i noticed that th einternail components of the ZZmt transmissions are very heavy duty, and thick.
man i wish i already had my brass tubing and lexan chassis cut out, it will be breeze from there on.
i was planning on making leaf springs for the rear, but now i want to make them for the front too, to give it a more rugged look.
working on it at this very moment.

pics.......POST PICS
The ZZmt dogbones look to be made out of nylon/white plastic.
I'm using slot car gears in my ZZ-awd.
My ZZ-awd will be the same size as a stock ZZse but will have bearings on everything except the motor and it will be 4 wheel independant suspension all the way around.(maybe 4ws)
It will still fit under a ZZ body. After I get it done I want to make 2wd and 4wd offroad buggies using the same chassis but longer A-arms and different tires.
In my ZZmt truck I'm using all ZZmt gears but in a totally different configuration. It will have some bearings.

Actually, I am too!
Rcdabbler, you know me from mrcc
Mine is going to look much like alpha's. (how did you make that rolling chassis? is it just legos? It' looks cool) It will have a more offroad look. I really like the looks of thoes lifted chevrolets with big mudding tires, brush gards, and roll bar. That's the look I'm going for.
It will still remain zz size. I plan to use a zz truck body from the american truck body kit. The chassis will be just plain plastic, with a simple leaf suspension of some sort.
My awd components are going to be two crown gears form a slot car, and a paperclip with one zz pinion gear on either end for the drive shaft. All in all, thoes 5 parts will hardly take up any space, leaving lots of room for the battery, servo and pcb. I havn't quite figured out the front yet, which is the most challenging, and no one is talking about it yet. I hope to have some sort of brass u joints or something for the front part of the awd. I'm still undecided.
Good luck to all, and lets see some pics!

Yep its me, I have a different name because I have no way of getting "slugbugg" back here.(oh well-unless I wanted to bother the ADMIN)

these are the pieces I need for my ZZawd chassis.
the top left 2 are the supports for the center shaft bearings.
the 2 top right long pieces are the pieces that will run the length of the chassis and support the crown gear bearings and A-arms.
the 4 rectangle pieces are for holding the spindle.the spindle will pivot inside of those and the A-arms will be pinned top and bottom allowing them to move up and down.
the 4 H shaped things are the A-arms.
and last of course is the chassis plate.
I have notches drawn in extra places because I dont know for sure how I will need the A-arms exactly but I'm thinking they will need to be adjusted.
As I was drawing the A-arms up I was very concerned about the fact that I may not be able to get as much steering throw but after drawing and printing it to scale I can see that it should be the same as a ZZse.Plus I could make it 4WS if i wanted to.
I have a sheet of label paper printed now that I can stick to a piece of plastic and dremel out 4 test chassis's it works almost as good as a CNC(if you have a steady hand).I will also code it up and let the CNC cut one out for me soon.Plastic is tricky to mill I need the endmill to turn slow so as not to heat up/melt the plastic. If the plastic works well I'll make an aluminum one and polish it up.

Wow, you really know what your doing. I can't wait to see it. I wanna see pics!
I'm still thinking of what to use for a motor. I don't want to use a regular zzse motor, because I'm going to have bigger tires, and the motor won't be able to handle it. However, I don't want to use a zzmt motor, because they drain the zzse battery way to fast.
