Micro B Motor / Axle Gear Ratio: RPM Equivalency Table

How to use the RPM Equivalency Table:

The table below shows the RPM (revolutions per minute) your rear wheels receive with any given combination of axle and motor. This chart will help you to visually comprehend the theoretical gains and losses in speed with different combinations of axles and motors. Keep in mind there are several factors this chart does not address:

  • loss of torque with higher revolutions, resulting in slower take-offs.
  • gain in top end speed with higher ratios.
  • gain in initial acceleration (take-off) with lower ratios.
  • loss of top end speed with lower revolutions.

What does this mean? Just because a particular combination yields a higher RPM than another, it does not guarantee a faster Bit. For example, if the length of the drag race course was 4' feet, a Bit with a lower final RPM may theoretically beat a bit with a higher final RPM because of quicker initial acceleration. Because of the tracks short length, the Bit with the higher top-end speed may never have the chance to achieve it.

To read the chart, first find your axle to the left. The colors correspond to the Tomy axle sets colors. Then scroll horizontally across to your motor, and you will find your final RPM, which is the actual revolutions per minute of the wheel itself. To determine your cars actual speed, (not scale speed), multiply the circumference of your tire (BitCharG Rear Tire circumference = 44mm) by the final RPM, and your result will be actual distance traveled in one minute.

RPM   x   C   =   D/min

To determine scale speed, multiply your result by the scale of your car, using the denominator. Ironically, I do not know the exact scale of Tomy BitCharGs, but if anyone knows, please tell me. To determine the circumference of a custom tire, mark a small point on your tire with an ink marker, then roll the tire across a piece of blank paper. The distance between ink tick marks is your circumference. I hope this helps you to better understand and take advantage of the endless possibilities of Bit Modification.
