Network Adapter for PS2

Hey, does anyone have the network adapter? and DO YOU HAVE TO PAY a monthly fee???? and how much is it? Cause i keep on getting mixed answers....
especially for auto modellista....

i dont thin the sony ppl charge u but i think the specific game servers might charge u

Nope you just run through your existing ISP without paying a monthly fee to anyone for the use thereof. And I'm not sure about auto modellista but I do know that some, but not all, games require a monthly fee (ones like EQOA and such). Sorry

Well...its good that auto modellista isnt going to charge a monthly fee....But what got me worried was that my friend said you have to pay to play Final Fantasy online...so i thought it might of applied to every game

looks like i'll be getting a network adapter soon

oh yeah that reminds me I need to save my pennies to buy the HD so I can play FFO....man I can't wait for that come out! I've heard it's gonna be good but going to all online for an FF game is a big shift for the title. Oh well...guess we'll find out!

yeah i heard FF was gonna be good. The only bad thing is MONTHLY PAYMENTS!!!!!! i think it was 11 USD a month.

Its cool cause you can make clans and your clan would fight against other clans...

11 bucks actually isn't that bad for monthly payments...could be worse hehe. But yeah, man...I can't wait till it's out. I love Final Fantasy. I liked 7 the most though...9 was great too...8 wasn't all that great...10 is pretty sweet. But all time fave so far is definitely 7.

shadow- do you have a router with your network adapter? how much is it and do you NEED one in order to be connected to the internet AND play online ps2 games..?

Yep I do. And yeah I'd say you would, if you have a DSL/Cable connection, only because it makes things a lot easier. I mean if you don't have a router you have to unplug your computer from the DSL/Cable modem and then plug the PS2 into it. Anyway, I have a D-link wireless router (Model # DI-614+) only because I was lazy and didn't want to run a cable to my Dad's PC in the other room.

You don't necessarily need the one I have, a regular DSL/Cable router will do fine for you. A non-wireless router will generally run anywhere from 50 bucks on up to 150 bucks. I do know that both Linksys and D-link have a 4 port router that is 50 to 75 dollars. (D-Link model # DI-604; Linksys model # BEFSR41) I've used the Linksys 4 port non-wireless before and it worked very well for me. Anyway, hope this helps.

oh ok, thx alot shadow. this has really helped. But on the instructions of auto modellista...doesnt it say NOT to use a hub/router? so if that is waht it says, then are they suppose to expect you to unplug your cable and hook up to PS2?

actually I'm not sure...since I don't have the instructions for AM. Sorry...I tried to get in on the beta version but it wouldn't let me register...kept telling me my SN for my PS2 was invalid for some reason, wierd (and ARGH!!). Anyway, as far as the instructions telling you not to use one...I don't see why unless they believe it would detract from the bandwidth the game can use. hmmmmm....I don't know, I'll try and do a little research on it and see if there's any info on the 'net about it.

I got it tuesday and tried to play with my USB linksys ethernet adapter... And it says it cant find the hardware. I got the linksys router right after Tony Hawk 3 came out... and therefore before the real PS2 adapter came out. Ima be pissed if I have to buy the PS2 adapter to play Auto Modellista online... Thats like 75% of the reason I bought the game, Oh well, the single player kicks ass too Bwaha

hmm since he's usin cable, he's gotta deal with those fat round cords rite? (correct me if im wrong..)

but im running on ADSL... things that LoOk like phone lines... they might not be tho, cuz someone told me they have more pins than fone cables... so.... basically what would i need to hook up my PS2 to a router to my modem..? i wonder if it uses fone cables... hehe

if not.. then i guess i have no choice but to buy one hell of a longass cable and lock the door to the comp room every time i wanna play AM ^_^

ok for people with a cable internet connection the cable goes from the cable line (big fat thing) or coax to your modem then to an ethernet cable (big phone cord) or cat5 to the computer (crash box) or peice of crap

. aight on the network adapter there is a cat5 port for those who have a cable dsl ect... and a phone line (4 pins) for those on dialup.

Kajoq - Unfortunately, yes you will have to purchase the PS2 network adapter. Tony Hawk (and I think one other game that came out around that time...) was the only game that supported that USB adapter (actually I think it worked in one or two other games). But Sony has already said that since then all games will only support the PS2 Network Adapter. I found this out the hard way as well, I had a USB network adapter and tried to get it to work with EQOA. After researching it on the 'net I found that THPS was the only game that was able to use the USB adapter...sooooooooo to sum up, save the pennies and go buy the official network adapter.
