Help Krylon Killed my car
I had a really nice looking sleek black skyline with really nice original decals on it. I let it dry... for a ridiculously long amount of time like 3 days... and then put a light layer of krylon on it which immeadiately wrinkeled up and made the car look awfull. Is there any way to save my car or revers this effect without losing my decals ???? Plz. answer this A.S.A.P. because car took me a while to make. Any healp would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like you sprayed on too much paint. Try sanding or thinning it off. I don't think you can save the decals though!

Whoa! are you serious??...damn.
Well...im going to do a new paint job soon, and im going to use:
1st use a Tamiya Spray Can
2nd paint fine details with Testors small paint bottles
3rd clear coat with Tamiya Spray Clear
would that ruin the paint?
ml22- only the decals got ruined? did anything happen to the paint?

I wish I stopped modding for every mod I screwed up, at least your chassis is still working. You can always buy a new body if your current body does't come out the way it was. Do you have a picture of that body anyway?

ralliart no problem with your combo...
For detailing you can use (almost)any paint you want but it should be enamel, not acrylic...

You mixed up paints. It's been a long time but I don't think you can put an Acrylic over a Laquer, it'll wrinkle immediately just like yours did. You can use Acrylic & Enamel though. Next time you paint, stick with the enamels. They give a great shine, smooth finish, and dries fast.
Unfortunately You can't save the old job. You gotta strip it completely and start all over again or get another body. This time you'll do a better job.

DarkTari is right. sounds like you mixed paints. enamels are best. i use Testors paint usually for models. you can always mix with thinners to spray it through air brush gun.
well, like every1 says. the next car will just be better than the last, cause u have a good idea of what not 2 do while modding.
good luck on your next project.

Seems everyone always want to blame the paints. Did you rough sand the surface before you painted? Did you strip the surface of oils with a mild solvent such as denatured alcohol, naptha, or mineral spirits? Did you primer?
Click the links in my sig. I did all those with Krylon Dupli-Color. (Except the the Skyline, that's stock). That's automotive touch up spray that comes at the automotive parts store. It's acrylic laquer just like Testors, or Tamiya, just bigger cheaper cans.
I'm venting because I always see people on the guitar refinishing message boards looking to blame Krylon for their mistakes. When you can see from the guitar that I painted it works perfectly fine for painting guitars too. That's right Fender uses acrylic laquers to paint guitars too.
Make sure what you are using is acrylic laquer, and not acrylic enamel. Laquer comes out much glossier, and if you start with one, you better finish with with it, because they don't like to be mixed. Some brands don't like to be mixed too. So stick with the same brand, once you start.

As I said before, it's been a long time since I've been to a paint tech session but the reason his paint "krinkled" is a direct result of mixing the wrong paint types, not the brand! It had nothing to do with the prep or the Krylon brand. Look at his scenario, he had a smooth perfect paint job. now him letting it dry for 3 days only strenghthens the paint, he sprays on a clear coat, paint krinkles immediately!
Now CrazyDave, does that sound like a direct result of what type of clear he sprayed on his beautiful paint job or the prep ????
Now you are correct about one thing, he can use Krylon, there's nothing wrong with it!, You get more paint for the buck and it's super durable, just stick to one type, don't mix them. If it scares you because of this mishap, there are tons of good brand paints out there, just stick to one type at a time.
A funny thing I remember from my old HotRod Days is that you can Lacquer over Enamel but can't Enamel over Lacquer.???? Sounds scrambled but I think that was the formula. There's someone out there that can correct me if I'm wrong.
