DRR: The "sleeper" of 1/24 RCing
The DRR seems to have caught on here in San Jose CA. Our race which included 1/24 UNLIMITED racing (apart from the mini-z racing) was the attraction of the day.
A number of guys have the DRR. Simple MODs can be made for this thing to be bolistic.
I personaly have a Corless (bolt up) ORION mod elite motor with only a 12 tooth and its 0-19 In less than 1.5 seconds. We race on a slotcar track that has wonderful traction.
I have a 2 cell 7.2 volt battery (peaks over 8v) powering a ORION CORLESS motor. A GM V6 for the smooth acceleration w/brake and reverse. Foam tires Strock rims. Jaguar body and 75mhz stock sized reciever.
*It has wonderful acceleration and torque.
*its sleek and VERY low center of gravity.
**It runs for OVER AN HOUR
***With 2 lithium battery backs I have over 2hrs of straight racing!
*******It has never boke on me! I have thrashed it some (I have put a little bigger front bumper on it though for front tire protection.
I LOVE IT. and its a shame they are not going to produce these things any long er. Fortunately the parts are simple and very affective. I will stock up.
LOOK OUT ABC DTM....here comes DRR!!!!!!!

P.S.
I forgot to mention about the 2 (two) cell battery.
I make 2 cell batteries out of LITHIUM ION batteries that are about 1500mah and 7.2 volts (most peak over 8volts)
On a orion motor: that is over a HOUR run time with the corelss set up.
I also make the charger for the batteries. (converting cell phone chargers to charge them)
ITS THE NEXT GENERATION..............better take advantage NOW.
cheers!
Kevin

I could hook you up with a very good setup. 2 pair of lithium Batts PLUS the charger for 60.00 plus ship.
****Be careful with lithium Ion Batts. They have worked well for me but they can be unstable and blow. My chargers have the automatic PEAK charging so they WILL NOT OVERCHARGE.
NONE have even gotten warm charging.
**charging time is about 2 to 2.5 hrs.
Let me know direct:
Kev71H@aol.com
I don't "Sell" this stuff much...but I know guys who like my setup and who have asked me LOCALY. I only have 2 to sell other than locals. I only have a total of 4 that I have ready to sell...sorry
let me know
Kev71H@aol.com
be back on MONDAY.
p.s. the proper setup of the charger is IMPARITIVE!!!!!! My system have worked very well for over 40-50 charges and CONSISTANT 45 min STRONG and 1hr and 20 min (with fading power) I have 2 batts for mine and I can't race 2 hrs straight.

if i remember,Li- poly batteries do not use a peak method to charge.
i think that when the cell has reached its voltage ceiling,i believe its 4.5 volts, and the charge current drops to 1/10 of the capacity of the cell then the cell is charged,i dont believe a normal 1/10th car charger will charge them correctly.
a charger for a single cell li- poly of say500mah has a set voltage of say 4.5 volts and a charge rate of say 500mah,when the cell is nearing charge the current to the cell starts to drop as the voltage coming into the cell nears the actual cell voltage, this is when the cell is charged.
please correct me if im wrong as im pretty new to these cells but will be buying some on monday ..for my 1/87 truck all being well if they work.

** My Batteries are Lithium Ion..not Lithium poly.
** I use a cell phone charger (the same charger that charges them for the "cell phone" it wasOritinaly intended for.
** Not sure "how" they are peaked and or charged..all I know is when they are charged the light turns GREEN. Take them off and there ya go. charged LONG runing time and they DO NOT get hot with the Orion Elite motor.
** these cells are 3.7v a piece. X2=7.2v they peake at about 8.4v or so.
Hope this helps.

I don't think the ESC (Electronic Speed control) can take that many volts. It will however take 7.2v I believe

The stock ESC will NOT TAKE 8.4V (for very long anyways...). I fried mine and got a Novak Spy that'll take up to 8.4V
BTW... anyone take a multimeter to their batts? My 6 AAA nimh in radio shack holders put out about 8.2 when freshly charged.
kev71H- I have a bunch of Li Ion cell phone batts and stuff, but i just wanted to know from what cell phone you get ure batts from and what charger? did u "de-case" the batts? how about the "smart charging" circuit on the batts?

DjPj,
Yes, I did "de-case" the bats...and curretnly I DO NOT use the circute board (that comes with the batteries) It works well without it but I would guess that I could not hurt it to add it.
Actually I have had NO probs without this circutry. It was just suggested to add it........currently I DO NOT use it.
The batts charge then shut off when the batteries do not take any more charge..then the light turns green.....go,go,go.
LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!
