oh the decision
Ok so now that i finally got my check/debit card and i know it works withonline purchases. I was looking at the AE86 with the turney wheels and also the propo special. I was just wondering if the Digi Q drift setting or any drift setting is really drifting or if it is just turning kinda sideways, i want it to be fun as well as kinda hard to do. I think that i will have tons of fun with the Digi Q but i just want to know how long batteries last in it and stuff like that. In general i need convincing that it would be a good buy to drop 104 on a nice controller and a car (cosmogames). also if you know of any place with a lower price but the same time frame in shipping, shout it out and i will go look. that you in advance

PTink,
If you browse through some of the topics in this forum, you should find a lot of info about the cars and the Propo Special controller that should help you make up your mind about making that big purchase
The cars run about 12 minutes average, and take about that long to charge, too. Having 2 cars, you can have one charging while you play with the other one. For me that was the biggest drawback - I wanted to have 2 cars so I didn't have to wait 10 minutes to charge. So I ended up getting the Special controller and 2 cars on my first day. It was pretty expensive total, but I have no regrets.

have owned over ten DigiQs now. I have the Special controller and I have three of the "R" series cars(the other one should be arriving by UPS in an hour or so.) I have NEVER played with a mini RC that could top a DigiQ. Also the Trueno does drift and it is a little awkward after being used to the regular cars. I love all my "R" cars so far. I will have the RX-7 today and then my collection will be complete (for a while at least). I hope you enjopy the cars as much as Keal and I do.

Well, ehhemmm, if someone DID ever give you flack, ehhemmm ANY forums...You let us Mods know and we'll lay the SMACK down on em! ehhemmm. damned cough!
One of the REALLY cool things about DigiQ is that you can ACTUALLY drift with them. Where a Bit pretty much just does donuts, I've been able to do little stints of drifting with my Digis.
Though it's probably more of a powerslide into throttle situation, it's DEFINITELY something you're not gonna be doing on a Bit...Add the factor of how SMALL these things are? The coolness factor is just through the roof!

Digis definately drift. And they do it well. It's interesting because, minus a frontal steering system (AE86 and RX7 rs have them), digis work much more like a real car than bits.
The dual motors in the back of the digis work much like a 2 way limited slip differential (LSD) on a car.
I'm not even going to try to explain how a 2 way LSD works because it would take a page of it's own.
Let's say you put the digi into a turn.
You let off the throttle (gas) a little to slow it down. The dead weight of the motors slows the wheels allowing the back wheels to slide a bit at an angle. Then you turn the wheel to the direction you want the digi to go and then gradually give a little more throttle. The wheel closest to the direction you are turning gets a small ammount of power, where as the wheel on the outside (away from the direction you are turning) recieves most of the power to "push" the digi in that direction. With the right ammount of throttle you will induce a "real" drift.
I do it all the time on the kitchen floor (rough tile allows for limited traction). It brings a grin everytime I do it because it works the exact same way in a real car.
I own a 240sx and play with the exact same quirky physics in real life on a regular basis.
A lot of people are saying the frontal steering systems on the 86 are quirky. There is a good reason to this but I don't feel like explaining it now.
Bits have a rear drive system more like what people reffer to as a "Detroit Locker." At least I think that's what it's called. This is were the rear axels of a rearwheel drive car are basically welded together so that wheels spin at the same speed all of the time. This is the reason that the bits like to spin in place a lot. I doubt that even proportional throttle would help this problem.
Drifting a bit is a lot like pulling the Ebrake through a corner in a Camero. It's pretty uncontrolled and normally doesn't look very graceful.

WOW, thank you guys for all the explanations. i think oncei get this stupid PIN from the credit union i might be able to order it. That would be at soonest, tonight. I think i will end up getting it with the special controller. ooh i cant wait... thank you for all of your answers. one other question, on some pictures of the back of the cars there was this huge vertical spot with a label or something on it. i was just wondering if the AE86 would have that.

PTink,
Yes, all the DigiQs including the Trueno have that sticker on the rear. It has the car's infrared ID number, and tells what car it is.
The rear plate looked so huge to me from the pictures on the web, that I was worried it would make the car look ugly and I'd have to find ways to modify it, maybe with my own custom sticker.
But the car is so small, that the only time I notice the sticker is if someone asks about it, like you just did
If you're worried about the looks of the rear like I was, don't give it another thought. It looks great!
