painting clear bodies`

I am sitting here with electrical tape and my clear lancer body and thinking "god damn its hard as hell to mask off these windows perfectly...there isn't a straight line on this friggin car"

I am going to paint the car black so I don't have to worry about the grille and hood scoops and stuff, but I really want to keep my windows and headlights clear (taillights will be painted over in red). Can anyone recommend a good way to mask off this stuff that won't let paint seep in but will still get my a clean line and be easy to manipulate? I don't have any spare bodies and I really want this to look good.

The best way I've found to mask my windows is;

Use regular masking tape approx. 2" in width (you get more for your money on the small jobs), take a piece of masking tape that is Larger than the window and apply it over the area to be masked off. Now take an Xacto knife w/ a new blade and cut around the perimeter of the window "carefully". After you've done this just peal off the excess masking tape from around the window. The next step is optional, but I feel that it's beneficial.
To be sure that no unwanted paint bleeds through the mask, I spray the perimeter of the windows with a clear coat. That way the paint that bleeds through, if any at all, will be the clear... hence stopping the base coats from doing so.
Hope this helps you out.

I do that minus the clear coat. If you quickly dust the car, Which is all it needs since it is so small, you should have no problem.

I never thought of the clear coat idea, thats a good one.

As for painting the car black, just to avoid painting the grill & scoop? C'mon thats the fun part of painting these things.

for the tail lights, make sure you paint from the INSIDE of the car rather than the outside, gives it a nice effect(of a real tail ligt)
