Question Couple ??s about chargeing at 4 volts.

I have a clone that came with a separate charger that runs off of 3 AAAs. I tested it, and aparently the timer is taking exactly a half volt. It put out 3.94 when the individual batteries read 1.48, and 4.15 with a fresh set that were 1.55 a piece.

My first question is that i see people charge dual cells with 3-cells, so would 4.15 volts be enough to charge a car with dual cell, or do I still have to disconnect the timer? I realize it would be better, but is it necessary?

Also I know from running 1/10 scale that that higher voltage means faster discharge, and shorter run times. So I was wondering if charging at 4 volts would have a similar effect. I didn't know if it would cause the battery to take a higher voltage. I just know that the clone eats the Zip Zap for breakfast, even with a 2.6 in the Zip Zap. I initially assumed that was mostly due to gearing, but now I wonder if this is a factor

The ZipZap has a horrid PCB, with high resistance. I charge my 2-cell with four AAA's, runs just fine.

Yeah, so I've heard.

You mention a PCB mod for the Zz in your sig. Got a link or any info about that?

To put my original question in less rambling terms: Will these batteries take a higher voltage if they are hit with a higher voltage?

Thanks for any answers you might have.

The clone u are talking about sounds like a motorworks and they charger from it takes 3 AAAs. I have used it to charge my dual cell mod. i just do 2 or 3 consecutive charges.

Mine is called a Cannonball. It has a little oval holographic sticker, on the case, that says "ST" all over it, and crisscrossed checkered flags. I've noticed that many clones have that same sticker. Further proof they were manufactured in the same factory.

Interestingly enough, there is the spot for the charger on the controller. I could easily install it in my controller, but I'm just curious why they would decide to do some with the charger separate. I would think molding a separate case would add to the manufacturing cost, and I thought these guys were trying to cut cost at every corner.

Mayb they had a load of unused plastic boxes from another job,so they adapted them into a separate charging unit rather than throw them away?

Yeah, I've found a couple mods since I asked that. Thanks though.

Don't worry about me soldering, I've been scratch building guitar effects lately, but I have to admit, I am intimidated by working with that itty bitty surface mount technology. Those resisistors are so tiny. You guys are insane working with that stuff.
