Chassis Extention Mod

I got around to modding my chassis today, extented it 5/16", so I can use a HO Slot car body on it.
In the photo, the top left shows the chassis, sectioned on a mill with a .015" slitting saw. Upper right is the extenders, made from delrin in a " H " section. Bottom lefy shows the pieces glued in place, this does leave a 5/16" gap on the bottom which, I'll probably just cover up with tape instead of plastic to save some weight. Bottom right is a Boss Mustang body on the finished product. The better bodies seem to be the older, cabin rearward types instead of the GTP prototype stuff, with those the chassis is a bit tall and the front section tends to be too tall when those type cars tend to have a slanted nose. Hope you like?

I'm ready to install 2 NiMh batteries into my booster car by extending the body too. May be I can take advantage of this mod and fit a HO slot car body on mine too. Can someone please provide links from which these slot car bodies are available?

I got some of the Scale Auto Vintage and Rothwell, the Rothwell's are a bit rough, the Scale Auto's are really nice, don't know about the quality of the others.

Wow nivirt, amazing job! How is the handling with this longer WB? Are you going to cram a few extra cells in the gap?

TinyRC,
I created this mod so I could lower the overall height of the chassis plus, extend it to use the HO slot car bodies. I've moved the board into the gap area thus, reducing the chassis height by .100". My contest entry creation will be more scale like than comical, as the Bits are now. You can see the difference in the photo, to the right is a stock Bit, left is the mod.
The turning is a bit wider, about 9" radius but, it won't spin out on a high speed turn.
I don't want to do the dual battery mod on this one but, I may on another I've also cut or, just go with the single battery mod, 3.6V that I saw on Ausmicro.com.

You said nyou used a mill to cut the chassis. WHat kind of mill did you use? I'm considering doing this mod to a Smartland Infrared bit char-g clone.

I'm going to be using a Johnny Lightning Thunderjet HO scale Baja Bug body.

Couldent you have just bought a ZipZap and
used its chasis?

Is this longer - shorter or the same length as ZipZap?

What is the length differential between the Mod'd body and the ZipZap chassis? Anyone have specifics?

Guys he started with a Bit char-g or clone. Again there were no ZZ's back then! He lengthened it to make it fit an HO (1/64th) scale slot car body, meaning it is probably close to a ZZ chassis, give or take a few millimeters to make the Ferrari body he added later to fit perfectly, which it looks GREAT!

I was thinking of doing this myself, but i dont have any high quality tools i trust to do this with, so I think I'll be chickening out and buying a ZZ...and then if it don't fit the body I have in mind...nevermind it better!

Ahh thanks for clearing that up.
I hive him MAJOR Props for pulling
that off. Very clean job.

But I would like to also know the
length differences between his mod and a
standard ZZ.

This was we will know that if we buy a ZZ for
the chasis we can add these great bodies.

Although I like the wheelbase of the Char-G
better.
