source for springs

I was just wondering if anyone could guide me in finding springs to install for my front suspension? I have a few springs that I took out of pens, but once they were cut and installed I lost all steering ability I bought the rare earth magnets but haven't installed them yet. I'd really like to get some springs though that could work with the original magnet. It seems that all of the online sources are sold out though.

Also, a question about the "real" springs that you can buy online... are they plastic or are they metal(magnetic)? Please post any suggestions or info, Thanks!

first not all metal is ferrous(magnetic). most of the tomy springs online are gold/brass/silver plated steel. they are non-ferrous even with rare earth magnets but they dont really do much good for the car. one time i got some springs from a hobby shop that were a different brand and softer and they fit around the front end without effecting steering. ill look for them next time i am there.

If your talking about the steering spring you can buy a guitar string "G note, cause it's the smallest wire" and unwind it. The little unwound wire works well. You have to cut it to length.

www.questformadness.com has 3 different springs to choose from. They need to be cut to fit the front suspension posts correctly. If the springs are cut too short, they won't do anything. If they are too long, the pressure of the springs will prevent the steering mechanism from turning(which sounds like what happened to you with the pen springs.)

you can go to www.questformadness.com and read up on their spring suspension mod.

Thanks a lot for the link and info Unfortunately that's the site I've already seen and they are totally out of stock as far as springs I'll have to double check the springs I used... I thought for sure that the magnet was somehow prohibiting it from steering due to the springs but now I'm beginning to think that maybe they -were- too long. Thanks again!
