TinyRC motor colors
I just bought some motors from the TinyRC parts shop to test in a couple of Char-A's that I picked up cheap. Unfortunately, the motors came in one bag and did not have markings on them. I was wondering what the color scheme was for the motors -- Is it the same as the Tomy motors?
I've got 3.0, 3.2 and 3.8 motors (times 2 -- 1 for each car). If the colors are how I think they are, then I may have a couple of bad 3.8's. All other motors that I have tried work fine in my bit clones (including 2 of the three kinds above and a 2.6 that I also purchased from TinyRC), so I don't think the cars are bad.

mc2wheels,
With motors from TinyRC:
3.0 = Red
3.2 = White
3.8 = Pink
If you are using a Bit Char-A clone, you won't be able to run the 3.8, because the circuit boards in these cars don't provide enough power to run the 3.8 effectively. And, you may have trouble with the 3.2. I've tested alot of clones to see which ones can run the 3.8 motor and the only one I've found so far is the Shen Qi Wei car.

Can I return the 3.8 motors?
I guess that's got to be it. That's too bad. I was really psyched to drag with these new motors. Strangely, my cars do seem to work with the 3.2 motors, but the 3.8 don't have enough torque to back up without rolling forward first, and they never seem to hit the high end of their speed going forward -- way, way slower than the 3.0. If I used these cars for the double battery mods, would I be able to drive the 3.8 motors? Do you think I would have any luck with the type "R" motors?
A little bit off topic, can anyone help me identify my clone? I think it is a Leyu Char-A because the antenna comes out the back side of the chip, it' got really long steering wires, has a clear cover for the circuit board, and the stickers that tell you what frequency the car is. But unlike the Leyus I've seen on the web, it's got a motor that sems to be a 2.6 (or races like that), and it came in a dome case. If it is a Leyu, are there other things that will make it incompatible with Tomy parts?

mc2wheels,
You can do the "dual battery" mod or the "no reverse" mod and you'll be able to run the 3.8 motor. I did the "no reverse" mod with a Bit Char-A and it ran great with the 3.8 motor. It just didn't have reverse any more. My Bit Char-A couldn't use the Tomy gears, so you might not be able to change the parts around.

Kyle,
Are there problems running the 3.8's in a genuine Bit?
TIA

arceeguy,
Original bits don't have any problems. They work great with all the motor speeds. Also, Microsizers and Shen Qi Wei cars work with all motors speeds.

Thanks for the reply man!
I have a Shen, and 2 "rally racers" which *seem* to be made by Shen - but I guess I'll find out when I try to stuff a 3.8 in it! The Shen's and rally racers had more powerful motors than the LXX clones i just got. (which supposedly had 3.0's in them. I havent tried the LXX 3.0's on the Shen, maybe the PCB on the LXX is just junk.

r-spec does not seem to consum much more power than a tomy 2.6 for me it had a 45+min play time with 3charges

4 out of 7 bad motors -- so far
(this is my second attempt to add this comment -- Microsoft browser just crashed -- figures!)
Anyway, I just bought a Microsizer from Target because my clone could not drive the 3.2 or 3.8 motors that I bought from the TinyRC shop. As it turns out, my new legit Bit, can drive them with no problem; however, 1 of each type was DOA. They just barely move if helped. I tried to break them in too -- tried just running them with no resistance (upside down), but they just never wanted to work. If I start my tires rolling, they will barely move, but if I switch to reverse, they often just stop.
What's even worse, is that I was able to use the 3.0 motor in my clone, and I loved it. Unfortunately, it burnt out after 10 or 15 runs over the last month. And then, when I went to replace it with my second 3.0, I found out that it's DOA too.
So let's recap. I bought 6 motors from TinyRC's shop (actually, 7 -- I have one working 2.6 as well), and 3 of them were never used and will never work. One of them, worked great in my clone for a very limited time. What's the deal? Can I get replacements? Should I expect my working 2.6, 3.2, and 3.8 to fail soon? Is there one type that is more reliable than the others, cause if so, that's the one I want. Tell me this is an incredibly unlikely fluke.

mc2wheels, that's very, very unusual - in fact it's literally about a one in a million chance that you'd get 3 defects. Just email us and we'll replace them!
