Double Steering Spring mod
Last night out of boredom, i decide to take apart the front ends on my 2 MSizers. The one is the one I fried doing the crip cap mod so I stole the steering spring out of that one, and added it to my working one. It now has 2 springs. One spring works left and the other right, and guess what, the car drives straight as an arrow, no drift to either side, steer left or right and release, right back to center. Steering is now a little slower, but it is equal in each direction. Now in just need some rare earths and I will be set

Sorry, only digital I have could not show the tiny detail. However it is very simple to. When the spring is removed, it is crossed. Place one spring so you have to cross it from the left, place the other spring on so you have to cross it from the right, and presto straight as an arrow

Tory.....You are right on. With the steering springed in both directions, it is much easier to drive, and if you ever noticed that you would spin out easier turning in one direction than the other, that is cured as well. Plus the trim of the steering is pointing straight ahead. Can't wait to get some rare-earths.

Here is a great tip for extra springs, I use this mod in one of my microsizers after the original spring went awol after a cleaning, and it works great
take a wound guitar string, i used the G, thats the smallest wound acoustic string, unravel the bronze wire, its very small and very flexible easy to form into a spring and has excellent flexibility, make a spring clip it on and drive. will track straight and turn just as tight as the original

This is an official me too!
I just finished the mod, and my shen is handling much better now!
And the additional spring does mellow the steering slightly, which for my car is good, because it got pretty twitchy at high speed.
Between this mod and the home-brew spring suspension mod, my cars is really coming along!

Has anyone else had the success with this mod like I have? I love it without the rare earth magnets. It is a very controlled steer, brings it back to center, and steers equally to each side

If wishes were bit char-g's...
Was lucky enough to find a local supplier for the "suspension" springs***, but have had NO luck what-so-ever finding anyone who sells the steering springs or an equivalent.
I don't play guitar... I have tried various scraps from other hobbies... all to no avail. Anyone have a lead on where to get these?
Better yet, anyone have a mod in-mind yet to replace the too-soft spring with some other means of righting the wheels after a turn?
Been thinking on it, but not much happening... no EUREAKA moments...yet...
~~~
*** (HobbyTown USA sells a "spring and contacts" kit for the Tomy slot-cars - cost about $3 for two springs and two contacts - cut each spring in half (lengthwise) to use for suspension springs... I love mine)
