Help with head/tail light installation
Hello, im a n00b and I just got myselft a toyota supra tomy bit char-g. Im planning to put in head light and tail light. Here is what I want to do.
Im not sure what size or what kind of light to get, please let me know if you know. I want the one that use least battery power
2x white superbright led for headlight
3x red superbright led for tail light
I want a to use a different battery source
I want a switch (if possible to turn off all light when I dont want to use them)
I want the light to link to the car pcb so as I press forward, light on, when I press backward, tail light on. Is it possible to make the light dim when in stop possition? Or make signal light (blinking would be great)? If anyone can show me a diagram or instruction how to make this, please help. Please be as details as possible.
I've already read about most of everything but I can't find any decent instruction to make a light with alt. battery source and be able to fucntion like above. I have a supra so Mike's Ultimate Light mod won't fit in mine and it cost $49 + s/h to ship to the USA, its too much for me.
Thankyou all for reading/helping out

hmm i don't know how tight a supra body is..
you might have to use the smaller battery CR1216
and surface mount LEDs.. I haven't tried modding mine yet, haven't had the chance to hook it up to an oscilloscope and see exactly what each pin outputs.
the thread:

should be helpful hopefully

suggested schematic
here's what it might look like.
you have to pick out your LEDs first, then calculate the resistor you need (if any). ( http://www.iguanalabs.com/1stled.htm)
You probably will need surface mount components, i think MMPQ3904 from mouser.com should suffice.
you will need to find the LEDs yourself.. no bigger than 3mm (T1 package)..but i highly suggest surface mount (SMD)
to get blinking lights, u can just get a blinking LED,
the only place i found blinking surface mount is:
http://www.americanbrightled.com/cgi...e/subcat2.html
good luck.

Thanks for the great info. Im not an electronic engineer or anything so I dont know what those simple on the diagram means. May be you could explain it to me please? Also, what kind of resistor do I need? I've pick out 3x 3v red led for tail light and 2x 3v white led for head light, 2 lithium 3v battery #2516 and some heat shrink tube. I dont understand what you mean by calculate the resistor however. Can you please be a lil bit more details? Thankyou.

Well, I've read that page now and understand most of it except I still dont know what kind of resistor or transitor something do I need. Can you be so kind to point me to the right place? Thanks

hmm ok
well you will need small components
from that website, you should know how to calculate the size of the resistor you will need.
you don't really need surface mount resistors, but might as well.
mouser.com / digikey.com / jameco.com might have them.
for the transistors, they don't make them individually that small. you will need to get a chip that has many transistors inside it. i mentioned MMPQ3904 in the earlier post. u can get it from mouser.com

Ok, I've read from this site http://www.age.jp/%7Eex2/bit/01_custom.html with a web translator. I want to do that as it seem a bit simpler. It said a condensor or something is needed, it said 100 mu F but didnt said what voltage. Do you happend to know the voltage for that? Where can I get a 190 Ohm resistor? Thanks

you _might_ not need the condensor/capacitor. u can get the 100microfarad capacitor at radioshck, with the 190 ohm resistor... look it up online or call your local radioshack.
you don't need to worry about any other voltages if you follow his directions.
hope this helps

Ok kool, 100microfarad capacitor at what voltage? I've seen different voltage with the same microfarad so thats why I asked Or does it matter? Lmk, thanks for all the great tips

oh, those voltages are the voltages the capacitor is rated as.. um..basically the maximum voltage u can put on it. in our case it doesn't matter cuz our voltages are so low. i think the smallest ones (capacitors) are at least 10 V
