new research

well, in some of my other topics i showed off some new developments i've been working on, and i have some new ones.

not only is the cd spinning motor perfect for the lower motor for a hovercraft, but it would also work for a Bit Char-G Helicopter! so, what i'm going to do is buy one supra, and 2 booster machines, the supra will be my personal car, one booster will be my hovercraft, and one will be my helicopter, i'll show these off as i work on them but i'm sure they will work.

i also used my friend's microsizer and tested the metal antenna i plan to use on my car, and he went about 20 feet away and it hadn't stopped transmitting yet, and i plan to use a tv antenna to transmit from my remote, so i'm gonna have hella-good range!

i was using one of those cd spinner motors with a 9 volt battery and i cut myself tonight, it stings, but proves my theory, IT IS STRONG! we also couldn't stop it with our fingers!

remember if you make a chopper you either have to have 2 seperate rotors on the top, or one sideways on the tail to stop the chopper body spinning the oposite way to the prop....

yeah, not only that, i'm gonna need a way to control forward and reverse, a rudder system, so that's another motor or two

EDIT: oh, and dustn, yes, you're absolutely right, i have to do a lot more research before i take on something like this

Do you really think this is possible? With the weight and cells and everything? This is quite an exciting idea!!!! to save weight on the rear prop, rather than have the hard one, have two threads attached to the motor, each with tiny weights on it!

yeah, i've been trying to think of a good idea for the bag on it too, and i think i have it, my old big rc hovercraft used a black semi-stretchy rubber material, almost like a child's innertube but thinner, and i have to find something that uses the same material or just get sheets of it. oh, and i've decided to move at least one of the batteries to the front, and use the area the batteries used to be in for the fan.

A whoopie cushion just might be the ticket, you can cut it easily enough, superglue will work to hold it onto the frame, and it's still rigid enough to hold it's shape.

For weight savings mylar is a better choice though, it all depends on how much the rest weighs and how powerful your motor and fan are.

I'm giving this project some serious thought as well, I think I could pull a hovercraft off, not a helicopter though.

For the skirt on the hovercraft why don't you try garbage bags? I have made 2 hovercrafts that run on .049 gas engines and are about half a meter long and I have used strips of garbage bag for the skirts. To connect the garbage bag together just lay the two pieces on a wooden block, draw the shape of the seam you want on a piece of paper, put the paper on top of the two pieces of garbage bag and run a hot soldering iron over the paper in the shape that you want. Also while I think that the helicopter is a good idea, I don't think you quite know what goes into one, the micro rc helicopters have a minimum of 4 channels and an onboard electronic gyroscope hooked up the servo's the bit radio just doesn’t have the versatility for a helicopter.

Sounds like a cool idea, do you have any pictures or plans on the web? Some dude made a personal hovercraft from a couple of gas leaf blowers, I saw it a couple of years ago when a local TV station was taping the guy at the local shoping mall. He used plywood as a base, and cut up truck inner tubes as a skirt. Pretty cool stuff....

if ur still interested in the helicoper..for the turning nsted of useing that back rotor thing u can use two motors on each side..put each motor in a turp and make like lil fans...then glur the to the side of the back...when you wanna turn right the right fan woud turn off and the left side would stay going...the to turn left it would do the oppisite...ill try making a diagram of it soon...

here it is...that arc and the rod gong across is connecting the two tup\bes with the engine and propellers...in the middle of the propellers are the engines.....they could also help the helicopter go forward too...its not so good scince i only took about 1 min on it...
