what motors have you tried?

I just wanted to know what motors you guys have tried and what you thought of them. Has anyone tried using 1/24 scale slot car motors? Will slot car motors even work?

A slot motor could work but if it's to modified it could burn up the Esc. The 180 motors work well and they are safe to use. The fasted one I have tried is a GPM 180 Hi speed black motor.

What would cause the ESC to burn out, a large motor, or a high (higher than 7.2) voltage battery pack, or both? Sorry for the newbie questions, but this is my first electric rc car.

it would heat up and transmit the heat through the wires back to the ESC causeing it to fry

A modified motor pulls to much current through the esc so it will burn up unless it is built to handel it. To much voltage from the battery could do the same. The DRR will take 7.2 volts and a 180 motor with no problems.

Why was the motor even near the drill bit? If your doing something like that you MARK the spot then drill it.

I must look at a pan car motor! I don't recall the holes being that small! THATS TINY, if they are smaller than the mRS4 motor mounts that is.

slot car motors are probably the best motor for these cars now that i think about it. that parma motor you are talking about is i think called the 16d correct? well that motor comes in the brp 1/18 car. i it is basically a pan car. it has speeds of 20mph stock in that heavy 1/18 pancar, so if it were in a 1/24 it would be great. they are great because they have lathes for them to true the com and brushes are changeable and cheap. they even sell a version that has adjustable timing. yes you would need a pretty good esc to handle these though. another thing, they are meant to run on 12 volts on the slot car track, so no worry of burning it up with extra cells.

good thinking DTMRACER my BRP fly's with that motor. It would rip in a 1/24er. Hum..... I might have to give it a try this weekend.

Hmm.. My bro has just a ton of slot car motors brand new bodies etc.! He has some decent slot car mod motors from what I remember .. I might have to get him to let me into that tackle box he has collecting dust under his 10th scale nitro\electric wonder land of a workbench..lol.. Please let everyone know how that works out for you irc.. These small cars seem really versitile when it comes to motors!

I wonder if the 1/24 scale slot car bodies will fit the DRR?

The slot car bodies do not work. They are to small. The electronics are to high of the DRR.

Although you don't have to worry about burning a 12v slot car motor up since we're only using 7.2v, wouldn't it also mean that the motor won't be running at 100%? If a motor is rated at 30,000 rpm @ 12v, would it only be running 18000 rpm @ 7.2v?

HAHAHAHA ~good~ GREAT point. that one got overlooked by some....I just saw the first slot car track I have ever seen and I was impressed. Those things FLY! but the lack of controle turns me away. although the drag strip thing is awsome

still with 7.2 volt pack, brp is super fast. with drr you could gear up alot because of the weight of it. also i thought slot car motors had more rpm than 30k. i know for sure that they have butt loads of torque. i have a old slot car motor and i hooked it up to my 4 cell and it seemed fast. also you can advance the timing on alot of them too. they are basically a 1/10 motor. the only aspect i am not sure of is how much juice they guzzle. you may need to size up the battery issue. you might need to run aa's. does anyone here own a brp? if so how much run time do you get with a "aa 7.2 volt pack"?

I just put an Orion core motor in mine. Plus a 7.2v pack. I can't believe I am about to say this........Maybe there is such a thing as too much power. I also have a 13t pinion. It helps, but not much. Now for the eternal search for TRACTION!!
