Do they go straight? Also Mini-x VS DTM X4
Hi guys,
I am new to the Mini RC car hobbie. Can u guys help me out please. I have downloaded a few videos of Mini-x cars racing. It appears they they never go straight... that is in the videos they are constantly swingling to the left and right on straights. Is this a problem with the cars being so small? or is it because they are so fast? I understand they are 4inches long?
I have also heard of the new DTM X4 cars. Do they have better handeling?
Thanks guys!

Pingster, I'm not sure why the cars didn't appear to be going straight in the video you saw; my Mini-X tracks perfectly straight, these are great handling little cars. IRC has both the X4 and Mini-X, he can probably give you a comparison of the two. They are longer than 4", by the way; I don't have mine in front of me but I would say it's more like 6-7".

The mini-x tracks as straight as any RC car I have ever owned and I have owned many. This car never ceases to amaze me about how good it is. With any small scale RC car especially, it is best to have a transmitter with dual rate steering to dial in the steering to your taste and track conditions. Fortunately, the dual rate transmitter of a Kyosho mini-z and other 27mhz AM transmitters work perfectly with this car.

Most unpainted bodies come with precut window mask so painting is not as difficult as you might think. You can buy an inexpensive body from this site like the Mazda RX-7 and use it to try your hand at painting. You can also use it as a practice racing body until you get the hang of controlling the car. If you do decide to paint you own body make sure you: a. Use a quailty paint for clear lexan bodies, b. wash the inside of the body with dishwashing liquid to remove any oily film, rinse and dry. c. if the outside of the body is not covered with a thin plastic film use a clear household kitchen plastic wrap ( glad wrap, saran wrap...) to cover the outside of the body. This will prevent paint overspray from covering the outside of the body and ruining that glossy shine. Keep in mind that clear lexan bodies are painted from the inside and not the outside. If you follow the instructions on the paint can and obey the warnings about having adequate ventilation you should be OK. Most of the major RC car magazines and companies such as HPI and Proline have tips on painting bodies available.
If you still want a prepainted body, maybe someone else on this forum can provide you with the info you need.

Pingster, where did you get the Mini-x movies from? Does anyone else know where I can get movies of the Mini-x, or for that matter, ANY Mini-x websites?
Thanks.

The only thing about the Mini-x is that you can't change the motor...the DTM X4 allowes for motor changes for more speed....I have an Orion Elite Stock 180-sized motor in mine and it flies...ask Nomotorlimit...he was there and even HE was impressed and it's hard to impress him with speed matters

Pit Stop
Are u sure? That sucks.... lucky i am still saving for my mini-x, maybe i should get a DTM instead, they sound more "hardcore"
Which cars are more fun to race? th DTM 2WD or the 4WD? would the 4WD be boring becuase it's performance is just too good around corners?

Pingster, he meant that it can't be easily upgraded to a hotter motor; you can of course replace it with another Mini-X motor. You can also rebuild your motor with less winds and better magnets and brushes. And you can pop in a hot regular 130 motor and make it RWD, that's what I have right now and with 6 cells it's the fastest tiny RC I've seen yet!
