independant swivel rear suspension..

hey...i was thinking of how much my car rolls when i turn really fast when going really fast. How could i make it so that it won't. I came up with something, have a swivelling back end. inspired by my friends newly bought mini z, i was originally thinking of extending the chassis and putting a flexible peice inplace of the empty channle created when extending the chassis and then use a zip zap (if we ever get them here in Canada) shell to cover it up.

But i came up witha better idea. i would use an old chassis that has the end all chewed up and cut off the back end that holds the motor and gears in and make it flush. then i would take a bit racer back end and cut it flush. then take a small tubing on each side mounted perpendicular to the chassis. Placing a small pin in the tubing would connect the two halves and it would let the back end spin freely.

this would keep the tires on the ground at all times and it would reduce the amount of body roll created by the stablius bar's effect on the front tires, you know pushing one side down and let one go up. it theoritically would provide superior traction as the tires would never leave the ground and would stop the car from rolling over.

give me some thougths on this. I have exams coming up real soon, so this will have to wait...i finally use my old beat up bits as a testing ground. if this works, I can have a really really fast bit that handles well too.

You will need something to keep the rear end centered horizontally. Having a full pivot may make the car unstable. Maybe a flex plate made out of lexan would do. You do have to keep in mind that the chassis is very light, so you may need to get some really thin lexan for it to work properly. It sounds like a good idea. Post some pics when you're done.

that was my original idea to put some lexan or plastic peice to use as a flex plate, but it would lenghten the chassis and i don't want that. plus that wouldn't work becuase the back end has to be heavy, a la mini z. I think the front end would keep it stable enough, besides the shell won't allow it to go far anyways.

hmmmm, you will have to mount the back of the body somehow else, or else the back body slot will make the whole thing obsolete.

I finished it..

cut the back of a bit racer off and i used some clone gears cause they are so fast.

here are some pics. i used some very very thin clear plastic i had laying around to make my very own 't' bar. a la mini z style.

it's great over bumpy carpet.

That's a cool mod. You can try mounting the body with velcro on the sides instead if you're having a problem. Does the t-plate flex forward when you are accelerating?

hey guys. thanks for the comments. the t bar flexs a tiny bit, but it shows it's use on bumpy surfaces, it doesn't get high centered anymore. I handles really good too. In terms of bodies, i am screwed.

i hope to add another batt in side the chassis because it doesn't matter for wheel clearence. oh man. if anyone has a zip zap, this would be the best bit/zip hybird ever!!!

I reason I want a donation is for some reason the radio shacks in canada don't sell zip zaps. I would go and buy one myself but they don't even sell clones and when they do, they are sold out all the frickin time. Oh well...
