Question Digi Q tank VS Desktop Rover

Imagine this earth is invaded by Martians in huge blue tanks with laser cannons. The Blue Martian tank are controlled by your computer.Your job is to defend the planet with your micro Digi Q tank with a laser cannon.Who will win? Or in other words is this possible?
Tiny can you please check out and see if the Plantraco Desktop rover and the Digi Q tanks can fire at each other register hits. Or any one else who own both Brands of tanks.
Thanks,

I have both tanks and they don't interact. That was one of the first things I tried. The Digi's are cool but for my application, the Rovers won out.

The main thing the Rover has over the Digi is that there is no charging involved and I have been getting about 120 hours on a set of batteries in the Rover. The down side about the batteries...$6 per set. The advantage is having the camera and UBS interface cable.

I currently have 2 Rovers with cams and each one is controlled via a joystick. The view from the tank cam is displayed on the computer monitor along with a top down view of the playing area which is 5 x 8 foot. The tank drivers can not see the play area except on their computer monitor. The setup is located at the local bar. My girl friend still thinks this is just an excuse to spend more time at the bar, but it has been a real hit there. A few more busy weekends and I hope to have 2 more tanks running. Once the bar's website is up and running there will be a live webcam so you can all tune in to Saturday Nite Slaughter.

I have to say, when I play at home, I like the Digis more than the Rovers. My apartment is reallly small.

Billy,
Thanks for the input I wish they were compatible that kind war scenario would have been cool. One small Digi Q against 4 computer controlled Rovers. Keep me updated when the website goes up in the other tiny R/C section: Desktop Rover thread on Tiny R/C forum.I dont want to invade the Digi combat section
Sounds like you have very high tech setup
Thanks,

BillyBonz, that setup sounds great! I'd like to see pics! How will you do the 3rd and 4th cams, since only 16 and 31 are available? Please give more detail on how you set up the joystick control etc.!

slotsurfer, I agree, I'd really like to mod the Rover to be Q compatible!

It seems like the Desktop Rover is getting more popular, should we start a Sub-Forum for it?

Sub-Forum Added! Not much chance of an ad for microtank.com, MRCC has that because they get kickbacks from the sales - since we are a real store, we may start offering them in the Shop!

Yes, 3rd & 4th cameras are a problem. The folks at Plantraco are working on a 2.4 Ghz camera that may overcome that problem. For now I'm working with UHF transmitters from Ramsey Electronics (http://www.ramseyelectronics.com/) They are old kits that are not available anymore. They are all surface mount components and I'm thinking they had problems with people building them. Now they offer a product called a Video Cube which I think is the same hardware. It's built, tested and ready to go, but not tunable. Still have some work to do on the video system for sure.

The joystick is an interesting setup. I'm using an epic card for that. (http://www.mindspring.com/~rrelect/) You will have to look for yourself to understand what this card does, it's very cool piece of hardware.

So this post doesn't ramble on longer that it aready has, I'll get some pix posted soon and some better explainations of the hardware I'm using.

Tiny Thanks for the Desk top rover sub forum I can't wait to see the photos of Billy Bonez set up at the bar.Sound like a fun bar to go drinking at.So do the spectators of tank wars watching the tanks battle it out do they bet on there favorite tank?I was reading on a British forum of gadgets and they had a thread about the desktop rover. This one British guy takes his rovers with him to the pub and they have Sumu robot fights with the rovers.Besides the lazer fight so they are also trying to tip over their opponents rover too I was at Target last night and I was looking at the Rumble Robots and I have some ideas for my rovers

OOOPS! That should be 12 hours on a set of batteries. I only wish they lasted 120 hours. Also, I'm running with 4 CR123 batts, not 2 now. My camera operates at 5-12 VDC. I hooked up 2 more batts in the same location the 9V batt goes with the Plantraco cameras. The tank radios run off wall warts so they never are a problem.

I will be getting a new camera in a few days so the whole tank needs to be redone. I'm hoping this camera and receiver will get me 4 working cameras that don't interfer with each other.
