ZipZaps Availability
I talked with a local RS store today and they didn't have any ZipZaps, nothing, nada, not even hop up packs. I asked them to check the whole district, and no stores showed anything in stock.
I call the RS 800 number and they have nothing in stock either, but I did learn something. According to the rep on the phone, all future ZipZap stuff will go to the stores until January. The online and 800 will not stock anything until after the holidays.
Just FYI.

HMMMMMMMMMMMM
the zipzap shortage is due to the dock strikes although it is back to working order the workers are still not up to par and are still not happy thus working slowly

Try to find a RS in a shoddy neighborhood. People will be less likely to buy em up there as opposed to going into a RS in a middle to upper-class location. I do this and I can get Zips anytime. Every time I go into the store, they have everything in stock. I was in there again yesterday for some electronic parts. They had 2 black civics, 2 FF sets, and a crap load of PTC's.

Most toys are not shipped by ocean freight, so the dock strikes will have little or no effect on why the ZZ's are so scarce. The RS empolyees are buying them up, and/or holding them for their friends. Another reason could be that RS didn't order enough initially, and couldn't supply the hype that they created.

I'm in agreement with lnx_author on this one... I know for a fact that [at least in my area] the Radio Shack employees aren't able to upgrade their own cars because of the shortage. Instead, they are holding them all for me :c) so you can blame me for not getting your ZZ! :c) In actuality though, I have had three ZZ held for me, one of which I gave my phone # to the RS employee and he called me when he got the blue civic in.

hard to get
There are 5 radioshacks in a 10mile radius where I live. One day I went to all of them looking for a zz, all of them were out. 3 of the stores said they were getting more on friday, the other had know idea. I went to those 3 stores on friday around 12:00pm. First 2 were already out, but the 3rd store got them in late, around 11:00am so I was lucky. Picked up what ever cars they had left, 2 honda civics and an upgrade kit. Each store told me they were only getting 3 cars per week!!

yep - it looks like someone in Ft. Worth didn't order enough zz inventory for the holidays!
can you imagine the scenario:
SCENE:
The Tandy Board Room, 200 stories up, high above the clouds in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Stone-faced CEO, CFO, CIO and executive secretary sit waiting at one end of 100-foot burled conference table, with wisps of clouds swirling outside the 40-foot tall windows...
[gentle knock on door, which slowly slides open to reveal a weak-kneed yuppie, who shuffles in with head held down]
CIO:
"Yep. I hear from our IS/IT department that orders have been flying into the Web site, but we have to turn customers away."
CFO:
"Accounting is reporting lost sales in the millions for this season. Our shareholders are not happy, and we're facing 13.58 percent losses on sales in this quarter alone."
[frowning CEO slowly raises his head, fixing a sub-zero stare upon the hapless yuppie marketing droid, who only this morning was dreaming of a big Christmas bonus]
CEO:
"Release the hounds."
[a panel next to the doorway slides open, and hundreds of feral wombats stream out, making a beeline across the carpet to the yuppie, who is covered in seconds by the snarling, jaw-snapping, mutant desert weasels]
[muted screams are heard, along with the crackling and crunching of bones, as the wombats first strip off any exposed flesh, then go for the succulent portions of torso and limbs]
CEO:
"I guess we should have ordered from Tomy. Have maintenance clean this mess up."
:-)

HAHAHA!!
I have another theory!!! What if all this is just an evil marketing straTEGY!! Making a control release to see the reaction of the public and then once we had a taste of the ZZs hold them just enought to make us buy whatever we get our hands on!!!
If from the beginnig we had tons of these things to choose from DO you imagine how many PT cruiser they will have left in stock???
instead they to the control release and ensure that once the floodgates are open everyone will go crazy buying whatever they see....just my two cents!!!
We haven't seen the last of the ZZs yet....

I rather DIE than to pay anything over the retail price for this things!! yesterday I checked ebay and I saw that prices weren't that different from the stores, Fast and Furious tuner kits that retail for $12 were selling for $12 plus $3 or $4 shipping. I think we'll see prices drop once RadioShack floods the stores with ZZs...Is gonna happen soon I can feel IT!!! I'm THIS close to getting my RX-7 body!!! Come to papa!!
