hipster, there is no such thing as a legit site - HTUSA isn't allowed to sell online, and stores in Japan face the same restriction. If you don't buy your car in person, it's not legit - and the unique identifier on each car means that as soon as you go race it, they'll "know" - and I'm sure they can trace it back to the original store too - not sure what they'll do w/ this info, but ... !

i imagine it has something to do with registering your dnano at the time of purchase, there is some text on that on the dnano site. htusa seems to be able to do phone/mail orders which means they are likely doing every thing at the store over the phone. it's not a leap to think it can't also be done via internet sales provided the right questions are asked at the time of purchase. it means a longer turnaround time from order to ship but by no means impossible.

i would not purchase a dnano from an unauthorized reseller, but thats my opinion.

there is the warranty issue to contend with as well...

i dont really care about the warranty, anything should be fixable as long as the parts are availible

this registering thing makes sense over in japan so you can upload your lap times, but over here what is the point until somebody standardizes a specific track

am i missing something else with registering?

there is a standardized dnano track system.

registering (comes with an annual fee) allows you to participate in the dnano online social scene and statistical data.

registering also has enormous potential for kyo tor track and gather consumer data. each car comes with a built in rfid tag. kyo will essentially know where you race it, how often, and god knows what else they can track?

it's possible that as soon as you race with thier timing system, they will know what car, where, whom owns it and where it was made and potentially sold.

thus the warnings about purchasing from no legit sources. they could potentially scan your car and tell you it was bought from x thus not warrantied, supported.

some of this is conspiracy theory until more factual information is provided

Standard track configuration at all HobbyTown stores

To answer a few questions about the dNaNo program at HobbyTown stores.
We will all have the same track layout at the stores, that way all lap times and racing will be on a level playing field.

HobbyTown stores cannot put up a web site and sell product, but if you call a store near you I am sure you could arrange to purchase a car. And any and all acessories.

We have a store in Mooresville NC and will hopefully have our product in house in 7 to 10 days, and the track up and running about a week later. The internet component will be a little bit after we get up and running, but Kyosho has assured us that the system will be going by summer or sooner.

DJ, may I suggest you start a new thread w/ your store details etc. - then people can reply w/ questions about racing there, buying from you, etc.
