So I went and bought a cool XMOD on clearance, and it's great except for one little thing: the wheels wobble about 1/8" in all directions. Is this a factory problem to be remedied by upgraded bearings, or is mine just jacked up? The wheels flip around os much they slap the wheel wells on the body, which really slows the little sucker down.
Any help?

Hey, you! Yeah, you! Do your wheels wobble like crazy? I'd like to know whether to take this thing back to get another one or to jam stuff in there until it's fixed. -Joe

Some people have had success by cutting the little nub off the top of the nylon nut allowing it to screw farther down the shaft. All the xmods have slop in the wheels. I would also check and make sure the yellow bushings havne't fallen out.

There are "wide track" bearings available from different retailers that also help greatly reduce the slop.

When I bought my Xmod pickup, it had the same problem. Till I can get bearings, I've stuffed small strips of copy paper between the hub and the bushings. this seems to tighten up the slop, on average I got a 70% reduction in tire slop and vehicle wander(it dogtracked by about 20º before, after you'd need lasers to tell). It greatly affected the handling of the truck too, and for the better. If you go this route, I suggest you not leave the paper in when you get the ball bearings, as ittl cause binding. Also, some bushings will be bigger than others, these may jam inside the hub when paper is added. These wheels arent going to flop at all, but the bushing-bearing upgrade will be a bit harder. To remove, first extricate the hub from the rest of the suspension, if rear free the dogbone, then just use some pliers on the bushing, taking care to not damage the hub. Once out, remove all paper, slip ball bearing in and reassemble. Kinda pitiful how much the bushings can differ in diameter, I had two that barely wedged in at all and two that took two layers of paper to get under control. Your results may differ, but they're gonna be a bit better. Also, make sure the paper doesnt get outside the bushing. Trim any excess, as paper here will interfere with the rotation and cause binding.
