Drifting an Xmod

I been trying to do some research on how to drift an Xmod, because it looks fun. Bear in mind I'm new to both R/C's and drifting. Most of the drift mods seem to have the following in common:

Stage 2 motor
Drift tires, or taped tires
AWD
hard springs front suspension, soft springs rear
Lithium batteries

One question I had on this, on real cars most drift cars are rwd, why do people recommend awd on Xmods? Wouldn't the same principles of drifting apply to an r/c car, and a real car? If not, are there different techniques to drifting an Xmod?

The one I've been experimenting with is to go into a corner fast, let off on the throttle, until at the apex of the turn, and hit full throttle again. So far, it hasn't worked, but I'm just running a stock Xmod, and my technique probably sucks. Anyone have any pointers? Thanks for your help.

well, an xmod needs awd because they don't have the horsepower and rpm's to hold through a whole turn. If you wanna drift, i need to learn your setup.
