oduble articulation mod

i know most of you out there who want a true off roader out of your xmod truck have thought about how hard it would be to make its front axle solid, i have too. solid axle rock the socks out of any independent suspension out there, in terms of off roading.
so...has anyone actually attempted to do this???? i saw something avout it on another forum, but it didn't say anything adnd the pictures sucked.
i think the most solid idea to do this would be to take a rear end and convert it so it fits the front end, the thing is...how will the body stay in place, that is something i am still pondering on?
i guess this is why no real car companies make double spindle cars. o
another idea would be to use the actual spindle and adapt it to the front, making a case or hole for it where the servo would go and relocating it.
the servo is what kept kyosho from making overlands awd and xmods solid front axle. because they are just too fu**ing lazy to relocate the servo!!! actually, i think it would take too much space for a strong servo and a differential, and traser gear to go on the front trend.
anyways of anyone has tried anything, please post.

well i guess nobody really cares about true off roading with their xmod truck, i havent been able to do it because im on vacation. but if the x-truck had double articulation, then they would have double the suspension travel they have moded in any other way.

hears an idea if u want to make a monster truck. use a super slick monster truck and put ur truck electronics in it. it has really good acriculation travel and only cost 5 bucks. if you want an ultimate crawler this could be an idea.

I agree with silent racer. The weak point after the electronics transplant will be all the plastic gearing. The SSMT is pretty stout and runs on 260 motors. Can get a lot more crawling/off roading in one of those.

I Intend to do the transplant soon.

i am already working on a super slicks monster, they are awesome. but i wanted to do the double articulation on the x-truck so i can have a realistic to scale 4x4. also, i dont want to make an unprportional to its size (as in tire size and articulation and torque) like a monster truck.

well if ur using the f150 and u want a realistic affect then you should leave it as so because it isn't an off roader. but you could always hack away at the chassis and do something like of an acriculation mod found on a zzmt.

well when i took some good looks at the hummer, (which im using) i noticed itwouldnt be as easy, since the servo is mounted on the chassis andnot on the axle,
i haveto reposition the servo, maybe make a longer servo horn, and make a tie rod (hopefully not) and use some pieces from the rear pivot assembly to make the front pivot, altough this will make the chassis longer, i can always hack away at the the litle pivot point to make it shorter (probably) and i wouldhave to make a new frontbody mount, like the one used for the rear.
basically im adapting a rear pivot axle with a front axle, make sure everything fits, and make sure the body can still be mounted.
i will start to post pics on july 31st, when im getting back home.

i noticed that for the steering to work, i need to do an on-axle servo mount with a new horn and some bars cup and ball ends, like what a clod buster uses,
any ideas? any rc i could take them out of?

ok guys, i am almost done with the actual support of the axle, i kinda just used my dremel to make the shaft hole wider and then i make some opening for the standard rear u-joint and i am working on the upper support piece.
i just need a suggestion....would an on axle servo work better than a chassi mounted servo???? i am asking this becuase i dont the car to be really high up, more of a realistic look to it, i have a method for both on axle and on chassis servo mounts, i just wanted to see winch one you guys thought was better??
thanks,

-Lino

will post pics soon!

well i am almost done with the double articulation mod, really i havent taken the time to take any photos of it.
i already make the mounts and chopping/cutting to mount a u-joint on the front axle.
this mod is fairly easy, i mean all you need is a dremel and some scrap material like sheet aluminum and something to cut your material, of course aside from normal hobby tools like nippers, an iron and some solder lead (obviously).
except for the servo part, I myself havent mounted the servo on it yet because i am using a Gen'1 servo an am adapting an Evo servo motor to it, so i am taking longer than i expected. the only reason i am using a Gen'1 servo is because it takes less space, i think, anyways i am using the original servo as a working winch, which is able to pull the car while suspended in the air.
i am also making it an off-road package, you know, roof rack, front trailer feather hitch, bull bar with steel bumper and rear steel bumper wit hladder spare tire carrier and gas tank carrier....all the goodies, but later......for now, just the pivot axle, bull bar, trailer feather and bull-bar lights.

-Lino

P.S.-will post pics when done with pivot and winch is done.......
