Custom - Hood Hinge Tutorial

Custom - Hood Hinge Tutorial

Tools List:
Junior hacksaw
Rotary Tool Kit
Super – Glue

Step 1:
You will need to get hold of a metal hinge watchstrap latch, like the one next to the watch in the blow image. You can buy the hinge part, on its own from any watch repair shop…

Step 2:
Once you have got a metal hinge, you will need to remove the hood and front bumper from you Xmods.

Step 3:
Now using a Junior hacksaw you will need to cut the metal hinge to size, the size(s) will depend on what type of Xmod u have, the longer side will be glued to the underside of the hood and the smaller part of the hinge will be glued on to the front body shell…

Step 4:
After cutting the hinge to the size u will need, take the body shell and using a rotary handy drill, grind out a place for where the hinge will be glued too, allowing for the front bumper to be reattached flush, with the front body panel.

Only taking away a bit at a time, and checking to see if the hinge will fit right.

Step 5:
Now come's the time to start gluing the hinge in place, starting with gluing it to the underside of the hood. I would use some very strong super glue, that will start to dry in a few minute’s for this as use you are gluing metal to plastic…

Please make sure that the hinge will line up with the cut out in the front body panel before gluing in place. A good idea is to tape the metal hinge to the front panel first, then place the hood on the car and mark where it needs to be glued from the underside of the body shell.

Step 6:
After the glue has hardened and the metal hinge is fixed to the underside of the hood, your will now have to glue the other half of the hinge to the front body panel. Once you have done that and the glue has set hard you can trim of any excess glue from around the hinge and reattach the front bumper.
