Li-Poly
Has anyone out there tried Lithium Polymer batteries? I'm curious if they are worth the investment. Also how are they recharged?

I use lipo batteries in my 1/18 scale cars, they rock. They charge fast, and run the car forever compared to nimh. I tripled my run times with them. They required a specific charger though, cause if you use a normal charger they can catch fire. For the X-mods I think the Li-Ion are just as good, the only advantage the Li-Po have over the Li-Ion are that if the battery is damaged there are no fluids to leak out (or so I have heard, if I'm wrong someone correct me). The other thing being cost, the Li-Ion are usually alot cheaper.

I'm using LiPo batteries in my Hummer and Firebird, and they're great. More torque, much faster, and they charge fast too. They're also lighter which probably contributes to the car going faster I'm not sure about runtimes, because I never paid too much attention. My car with a stage 1 and LiPo runs circles around my stage 2 equipped car.
The downsides are you have to install them (which is actually kind of fun), which means you have to remove the original battery tray, and solder the new set in, you need to use a special charger (but that's not that bad), and you lose the adjustable battery tray.
Overall though, one of the best mods you can do.

I have used both lithium poly and li-ion batteries to moderate success with xmods. The main issue comes from charging them. I use an appache 2030 charger that can charge 1-3 cell li-on or li-poly. I talso charges 1-8 cells nicad or nimh. I believe the store that carries this online is bisship power productions. The charger does need a 12V DC source. Once you have a way of charging batteries, you're set. They carry much more charge per weight than any other chemistry. You cannother overly discharge them or they won't charge again. WHenever one of my li-po cars slows down, I know it's time for a charge.
Two cells with li-ion or li-po will be around7.4V (equivalent of a 6 cell)as well. Poly batteries also have higher discharge cababilities.
