dtm better than sp
which do you think is better, the dtm or the dtm sp??
i bought the abc dtm(not sp) right when they came out years ago. i wanted to get an sp until i noticed the motor position, lays flat. i run the orion elite coreless motor in my dtm and i noticed that this motor wont fit in an sp. this motor is awesome, insane speed combined with long run times, even with big gear ratio and stock 270 mah batteries. i ran a 17 pinion with i think a 44 spur= TOOO FAST, i lowered the gear ratio and made the pinion 14, but havent tried it out yet. also, do any of you have problems with your abc's spinning out? my dtm is really prone to spinning out. my dtms specs.......
abc dtm
foams alround
keyence esc shrinkwrapped
futaba rx shrinkwrapped
cirrus cs 10 bb servo
team orion elite coreless motor
full ball bearings
set up...
the front wheels have quite a bit of toe in to reduce the twitchyness down the straightaway
the rear diff is tight,( should i loosen it if it spinns out too much, i have to baby the throttle coming out of a turn or starting from a dead stop)
thanks to any input on my set up

Sounds like a great car. loosen the diff so it slips for a few inches at take off and you will be dialed! I think the big thing about the SP is it has a aluminum motor mount. What body are you running?

i run a ABC nissan skyline body painted silver and sometimes i lengthen the wheelbase and run my le manns nissan racing body. the abc also has the aluminum rear pod but its anodized black instead of red. another down side to the dtm is that it dosnt have the friction dampener and the spring suspension, it just has a little t plate. im working on a project and i was just wondering if the diffs on these cars are that important? what about just a live axle? i have way too much steering at my local 1/10 indoor track and maybe if i put in a live axle, it would reduce much of my uneeded steering(yes i dialed out 99% of it on my TX)
any comments on a live axle?

A solid axel will for sure dial out your steering. Try it and let us know? I dont think you will like it as the car by theory will not corner at all.

NO,
I would say removing your diff as not an option.
Why don't you just dial some steering out of your radio?

dtmracer,
do you use a traction additive on your foams? If so do not apply it to the front. If you are not using any you should start to and apply it fully to the rear and only half the tire up front. My SP is sweet on my track with no additive but IM not running on carpet. I also adjust my diff to slip at take off and a little when I roll on the throttle out of corners. You should play around with your diff before replacing it.

yeah i still use a diff, and its on an asphalt track, i only use tire compound on the rear tires. i am asking about the solid axle because i wanted to make my own 1.24 rc, perfect set up. i would want it to have a slot car crown gear in the back, connected to a solid axle in the back(for simplicity). with the crown gear on the axle i can mount much wider foams like they do on 1/10 and 1/12 pan cars. the motor would mount on top of the t-plate. it would run on 6 AAA nimh batts, positioned in the same location that they are on the MINI x. and the electronics would fit up front, also like the mini X. this would significantly lower the center of gravity. i drew up a sketch of it and ill try and post it soon. tell me what you think of the design
