Arena games:
Arena games:
With five Bit-Char-G’s of different knock off and original brands, we stepped into the world of micro RC. Of all the races and time trials, the games enjoyed the most were Arena games. The Arena was basically a 6’x8’ rounded area with ‘bumpers’ made out of a garden hose. Here is a quick break down of the three most popular games.
Five Player Arena games:
Tag:
Average Game Time: 3+ minutes.
Fun Factor: * * *.* ( 3.5 of 5 )
In Short: Play tag until someone is 'it' five times.
Each person picks a position at the base of the track and one car is considered ‘it’. The car must run around the track chasing the other opponents until tapping a different car. The tapped car gets a counter and is now ‘it’. The game continues until someone gets tapped for five counters. The person who loses is ‘it’ for the next game.
Moment of excitement:
During one match a single player was tagged five times in 30 seconds during a crunch near the middle of the track. The ‘it’ car changed hands more times than all five of us could count. We were all attempting to flee the middle and just kept tagging cars on the way.
Vampire / Highlander
Average Game Time: 2.5 minutes.
Fun Factor: * * * * ( 4 of 5 )
In Short: Each tagged person is 'It' until only one remains uninfected.
Each person picks a position at the base of the track and one car is considered the Vampire. The Vampire runs around the track chasing opponents until tapping a car. Now both players are considered Vampires and chase the remaining vehicles. Each time a vehicle is tapped by a Vampire he/she becomes a Vampire. The last non Vampire car is considered the winner.
Moment of excitement:
One match had three vampires and two uninfected vehicles. As the vampires chased the uninfected, the non vamps kept running into each other in crossing routes. During one rather violent collision of a Toyota BB and a Mazda the Toyota BB was sent into the air and jumped a vampire, landing on its wheels and kept going. The Mazda was tapped Toyota BB won the game.
Barrel War
Average Game Time: 5+ minutes!
Fun Factor: * * * * * ( 5 of 5 )
In Short: Get all barrels into the opponents court.
This game uses the pylon / barrel set you can purchase. Take five barrels and place them in a line across the middle of the Arena. Make sure the barrels are a fair distance apart. Pick two teams of players and a renegade with five players or just two teams with four players. The object is to get all of the barrels into your opponents ‘court’ before they do the same to you. There is a small 6” buffer in the middle of the track. The barrels must cross this buffer to be considered in the opponents court ( 3” on both sides ). Each team starts on the opposite ends of the track. The renegade can start anywhere. The job of the renegade is to simply inhibit players by moving barrels or simply tapping the cars out of a well-aligned shot at a barrel. This game gets insane. Players are all over the court attempting to stick barrels in hard spots and secure barrels from getting hit. The renegade adds to the confusion by causing chaos on the field. Because of the long nature of the game, cars will have to recharge. This is a strategic point, if you need to recharge during a critical point in the game. Reducing the barrel amounts can shorten the game time.
Moment of excitement:
During one very close match my partner had to recharge his vehicle. This was a major blow against us as the other team only needed one more barrel to win. Even though the car only takes about 45 seconds to recharge the game was 30 seconds from over as they had the barrel on the move. He looked at me and then at his car. “That’s all you get!”, he said as he put his car back on the track with only a ½ charge. Momentum swayed and we eventually won the match. 45 seconds can be an eternity.
I hope you enjoy these games as much as we did. The more players the better the Arena match.

Thanx Kwikbb, I've found a ton of usefull information here and thought I should give a little back to the community. Here is a quick breakdown of the current areana I'm using.
Creating The Arena:
Anything can be used to create an Arena but the current one I have works wonders for these little RC cars. It’s made from simple 1/4" Luan board. Two 3x8 sheets secured to 1x4's. I cut the rounded corners at about 2 1/2 ft and then filled the small crack with standard drywall putty. I then took some thin felt and covered the track. The 6' felt variety can be purchased or special ordered at most fabric stores. The surface I used wasn't the felt though; I ordered a large amount of standard turf used for model train yards. Those tiny green fibers are incredible for the track and it gives the Arena a really cool green texture. The tack to secure the fibers is standard 3M 77 or 99 spray adhesive. Spray the tack onto the felt and apply your turf material, don’t be stingy with the adhesive. You’ll be spending quite a bit of time wiping down the excess to ensure no material is unsecured but the result is great, a spongy surface that has tons of grip. The finishing touch is 1/2" nylon rope around the exterior so the cars don't fly out. The larger engines do tend to flip so be careful if you plan to recreate this project. If I can get some pictures of the track I’ll get them online over the weekend.

Great stuff Ace...reminds me of some paintball scenarios we used to play.
A couple more for y'all:
Freeze Tag: If the car that is "IT" touches you, you must stop and stay still until another car touches you and unfreezes you.
Reverse Tag: Car that is "IT" is trying NOT to get tagged by all the other cars which are chasing him. Whoever touches "IT" then becomes "IT" and runs like hell!

Ace, sounds pretty cool. Just a clarifying question: did you use both felt and turf? I.e., did you glue the felt to the board and then the turf to the felt?
Ok, I lied, one more question: where did you buy/order the turf?
I'd love to see pictures of it. Sounds really cool.

rrvball:
I found the turf at my local hobby store but if you need to purchase it online. Check out this link and then find the best price. This is the product I used.

Basically I first ran the cars on the Luan board. They ran pretty well but tended to slide a bit. After I installed the felt the cars ran great... for about 10 minutes. Then we had the vacuum out every 5 seconds removing the microgreen fibers we were picking up. Finally I used the spray on tack with the turf. This was the perfect surface for what we needed. We were going for fast turns and very low dust. The cars suffer just slightly on speed because the base is a little soft. A friend has asked to help make him another so I'll just take pictures while we make it and try and get them uploaded soon. Just remember _don't_ skimp on the tack. You have to spray it on after you have finished as well. This is probably the reason the tires tend not to rip up the surface.
- Edit: This turf in the large bottle says it will cover 50 cubic inches. You will need a thicker coat so it will only cover about half of that.
Killboy:
I really like the reverse tag. I wish we would have thought of that when everyone was together...

something that i thought up was to attach some sort of wedge to the bit's front end, and then drive around flipping the other cars. robot wars styles. the wedges win anyhow.
