The Ultimate Track !!

well i dont know if everyone will be able to get their hands on this but i will tell you how i got my hands on it and where you could try....I used to work for a flat top roofing company in Canada callled centrymark or centermark cant remember it is an American company expanded to Canada for those in the States. This company uses i different product to re-roof large warehouses. Instead of ashphalt and stone they used a product called "EPDM" it rolls out like carpet and is available in huge massive dimensions. The product best explained, is like one massive piece of of bicycle tire rubber. For myslef i have grabbed a 30' x 30' piece and stand in the middle. for the track outline, and track roads, I have used television cable and/or old garden hose works awsome, might have to tape them down. Currently i a have the Gilles de Villenueve Circuit as best i could (Formula 1 Montreal Circuit). My 30 ' x 30' is huge but could be bigger 40 x 40 maybe ideal. Anywayz back to the product, I could write on and on actually about it and how there is virtually NO out of control turns or spin outs. and it is the best! sufrace i have found to drive on, hardwood, ceramic, vinyl, concrete are all secondary to the control offered by the rubber surface. I will try to post some pics soon. By the way usually we have 50 to 100 lap races and lap times are arount 1 to 1 .5 minutes depending on your mistakes or the severity of the track i.e grand prix of monaco <= nightmare

please post pics and comments on large scale track ideas 900- 1200 sq ft

Yeah, I'd like to see this stuff. Sounds interesting. I'm not sure how many large scale tracks for Zips there may be. Mine's 4'x8' and it's to big to put anywhere. But, I guess you could just roll yours up. Please post some pics when you get a chance.

Large scale tracks

Currently i am and my friends have all re painted our garage floors, and are current using garden hose to outline a track. it is easy to manipulate and change and large enough to keep the car in the lane. and as far as tracks we just rescale race tracks from around the world primarily f1 tracks. and i guess size wise they are about 400-600sq ft 20'x20' and my next door neighbors is 20'x30 sq ft. i will be posting pics...but we are so proud of ourselves that we will be holding LIVE RACES we are just tuning our cars and getting them ready so to speak but we have already broadcast a few to test. we have rounded up about 6 webcams and cameras we can use so far.

Sounds interesting. Love to see the video. How wide are your lanes BTW?

Lane width....

lanes are approxiamtely 24" apart with them narrowing down to 12 - 18 " in spots, tight turns, blind corners, tricky spots are all in the mix. but i must say garden hose, garden hose garden hose, works amazing for track construction easily changed, or tweaked

EPDM cont...

oh and by the way EPDM is a standard rubber membrane apparently used in many applications which i didnt know, i have also recently found in different thickness's of EPDM for use in outdoor ponds. However the stuff i picked op for the pond was to thick and didnt seem to have the same finish to it. seemed slicker than the thinner stuff.

I work with EPDM everyday. We use various gaskets made from EPDM. Yes, it is basically a hard rubber membrane and does come in different thickness'. If I remember, I will bring home a piece and snap a pic of it.

Never thought of using it for track surface though, but it would work well.

EPDM cont...

well 'azi' i would think a more expensive thicker piece you would be able to find at any local garden and pond supply store. The one i grabbed some from sold it in 10', 15' and 20' widths. i think for my 20' by 15 for the pond was 220$ canadian, but like i said i think it was a little to thick somewhere around 5mm "i think". you may want to check aout some local flat top roofers(commercial) in your area through the yellow pages and ask to see if you can buy a piece off them, i worked as a roofer one summer a few years ago, this is where you i or you might find pieces thinner and also wider, some of the pices we laid down were 100' wide and probable 2 or 3 mm in thinckness. i promise i will get some pics going soon, i have a camera i am just really busy right now with work.

when you say hard, what do you mean, because the stuff i am reffering to is soft and plyable like a pool liner or bicycle tube that goes inside the tire, would be a good example.
