Question on electronics

Is there a good general setup that is working well for a lot of people?

I am currently working on a Hot Wheels 57 Chevy Suburban from the "Dubs" series. I am very excited about it, but I have slaughtered many of my 6 yr old son's small rc toys trying to find a good set of micro electronics.

Because of it's extremely low profile, I think I am going to attampt a belt drive system from the servo motor to the axle. It should be fairly straight-forward.

I would REALLY like to be able to use my Airtronics MX3 radio for this truck. I have a rx that is smaller than the original one and may be small enough to fit if I remove it from the case, haven't gone that far yet.

What about batteries. I assume we are talking Li-Poly, right? Toobad that's a spendy charger, but I guess there are not to many other choices.

I haven't seen any other posts about using Hot Wheels cars, is there a reason for that?
