regulator mod
Does anybody know how to do the regulator mod? I want to add more voltage to my car but do it safely, so does anybody have a walkthrough they can post?

For complete technical details on applying it, email me at Jshwaa@insightbb.com. I developed the regulator mod. I can give you the whole kit and kaboodle on it. Here's the kit. The kaboodle is all in my head.
HERE'S A VIDEO WHICH GIVES A TASTE OF THE ACCELERATION.
I seriously wouldn't try doing it on your own. There's only one other person who has the 'gist' of it, but his is disfunctional for the time being(Burlguy). From what I've read, he's doing more research on it. Just email me at Jshwaa@insightbb.com for more info.

How much? Also how much voltage can you run? This might be cool if I ever decided to run 2 9 volts. I'd also need instructions. You realize that you've suceeded where no one else has: beating a modded Mini-Z!

I added all of that up, and it came to about $185 for everything. If I did it again, it'd be cheaper though. The regulator kit and instructions are $20 + $5 for shipping. Email me at Jshwaa@insightbb.com if you're interested.

Theoretically I could run up to 25V, which is the input limit of the regulator circuit. The FET's(IRF-7389's) handle 30V however.

Perhaps, but your mAh rating on 2 series 9V would give you about 2 minutes of good run time at the current levels you'll be running.

You mean there's been no reports of a 40mph mini-z? The total price of my xmod isn't THAT much more than a stock rtr mini-z either. hmm...*buffing nails*

Well, I've decided to run more voltage. I'm not even sure if I'm gonna do this, but in theory, can you make a regulator to handle 27 volts? This car would be limited run, so I'm not worried about runitme. Are 9 volt recharables less than 9 volts like aaas? Then this might just work. I figure that by running 3 9 volts, I get triple voltage in a car that weighs as much as a 6 cell. I'm hoping xmodspeed's external FETs can handle the power. I figure w/o motor, that this car and everything will cost in the heighborhood of 110 bucks. What's the worst that can happen, I fry the board?

You packaging and sending these things out now? Sweet! If I ever decide to run more than 2 of Rob's Li Ions, I'll have to pick one up

You've given me some good thought, jshwaa. I think you got me out of the 3 9 volt idea, as it wouldn't run for very long. I've given it some thought, and if I get a new car, it's gonna run on 6 li-ons. Will the .6 volts make a difference on the regulator? This is gonna be FUN!

I'm not sure. The data sheet states an absolute maximum of 25V. Maybe you could just charge your power supply to 0.6V under full charge. Sounds like you got some work to do, nonetheless. Have fun.

What would I need to mod to get the rating higher? Also, if you can figure it out, for a few extra bucks can you do it for me. I am horrible at surface mount soldering (need practice).

I'd talk to Rob at www.atomicmods.com. He is more readily equipped to handle such orders for repair and modification. I am only selling kits and knowledge, sorry. Email me at Jshwaa@insightbb.com for more info.
