good idea for custom body and light weight bodies!!!

i used to build balsa wood airplanes and stuff for a science program and i though about making a body out of these big pieces of balsa wood about 4 1/2 by 4 1/2 inches by like any length it is incredibly light this is a big project as these types of pieces cost a fair amount of money and you would have to completly carve th body out of the wood with like a razor and sand paper but it is for people that are after crazy speed but still want looks too by the way im going to try this on a new xmod im getting wich will be my second and once i get my pay check also anybody else tell me what you think and if your going to try it and stuff ya know whatever it sounds good and a big project it will be fun

It sounds cool until you hit something, then you'll have nothing but splinters left.

How easy is it to cut Balsa wood to the precise shapes that 1:28 scale cars require, though? It isn't. You must really know what you're doing.

i have a good method i used for other stuff .ill tell you baisically how it works...first draw a top view on top of the car on block then shave it then front view shave it then side view then shave it then shap that to look like the bodie then hollow it out remembering to make tabs to connect but cut the tabs alittle wide and use something more stiff that will dry hard

and about the thing of it breaking if you wreck the answer...dont wreck its a race bode not a demolition derby body on real race cars they shave like 1/16 of an inch of in alot of places and use lighter body panels and stuff because its for raceing not tho be completly safe thats why they get pros to drive them the idea is for racers not drivers theres a difference p.s. joey do you live in utah?or new mexico

I'm actually in the middle of the lexan endeavor. I'm going to try and make a vacuuforming table this weekend with plans that I got off the internet.

As a first trial, I'm going to use my Xmod Supra body to see how everything works. Plus, it will give me a good idea on exactly how much weight is lost.

I'll post pictures up as soon as I have something to show.

I like the flexibility of lexan over rigid polystyrene or ABS. It tends to absorb the impact of crashes better and doesn't "whiten out" as much when stressed. The one disadvantage (for some) is that it has to be painted in reverse order. But, it's always shiny!

Just southwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I've never even been to Kirkland, but that's where Jerry Holkins lives, so I use it.
