How does a tie rod work?

How does one work and what do the different kinds do?

A tie rod increases (or decreases) the toe-in of the front wheels. Toe-in is the amount by which the front of a front wheel points inward or outward.

Yes. The longer ones create more toe-in, which usually makes your car more stable but less responsive.

Toe-in is a tricky little bugger, if your going to use it, you've got to know what increasing it will do to your car and it's current setup. The problem is that it's a ton of work to put a different tie rod in.

in these? only 8-12 screws to take out and maybe a cone gear. not that bad

aperson...I'm not saying it's hard to take it apart, and since you have the AWD you don't think it's a pain to get everything back together?

if you take the knuckles and springs off its not hard at all. the only hard part is the re-assembly with the knuclkes. i have to use a screwdriver to put the axel into the cup.
