Body Filler and Body Kits

Okay, I've seen you guys work some killer magic with body filler and body kits, so I'm trying to get some help here. I've been searching the forum for days for info, but haven't got what i really need to know.

I've got a 350z body and I am looking to add a body kit to it. Now I know i can use styrene to create a body kit ala' Bad Company style, but i've seen some kits that look like they were created with body filler instead (or maybe in conjunction with). Check out this guy's body kit on his 350z:

how did he do that?

Also when painting. Do I need to sand my zipzap first? Is primer required? Should I put a clear coat on my zipzap after painting?
