WOW, another steering discovery! Upgraded steering motor!

Wow..

Ok, so i got the thing opened up and im poking around
and someone mentions "hey, why not try to upgrade the steering motor?"

So, I was thinking "gee, what does a steering motor need more than anything?"

Answer: torque

And, what motor has arguably the most torque?

The 2.2.

So, I put in a 2.2 in the steering drive, and WOW, it actually HELPED!!!

So, now, looks like the twitchy steering is a thing of the past!

YAY!

Too bad RS didn't do this in the first place...

So, I have the 7/7 steering mod AND a 2.2 steering motor.

No hit on the battery either.. On the contrary it seems to last longer now..

I have just about all the motors out, and the ZZ NX motor rules all in torque. The 1.6 (discontinued now) from bit char-gmotors is #2

The 2.2 is probably in the top 4-5, but certainly not #1

I bet it works well though. It seems you have a good grasp on things.

My fetted SE runs great with the stock steering motor, but now you got me thinking.

You do need fatter shoes on it though.

ya, but i mean, the most tq with that low speed.

Of course the 3.8 would work, but it would draw more power, and that was a consideration too and I didnt' want the encoder ending up in some sort of feedback loop so I didnt' want to overpower it.

I wish I could find maybe a 1.5 or 2 to put in there that just had massive amounts of tq...

That would be a good compromise between good steering and low power consumption..

IM still wondering why they didn't do a stepper motor on this thing.. Maybe it woulda been too big, but steppers are DAMN accurate.
