Anyone consider selling an external FET mod (regulator mod)?

I was thinking something like the Mighty Mods Blaster kit found @ MightyMods.com. Since apparently there's to order from that site, I was wondering if someone would consider making one of these.

I'm highly skeptical of that kind of setup. The stock FETs still have to pass all the current, so how is it going to help?

I thought the idea was that it would basically bypass the stock FET's, so that when power was applied to the motor, the regulator would kick in the extra cells.

Actually, a external fet upgrade would be MUCH better than a internal fet upgrade, because the heat of the fets can cause the pcb board the radio and servo controller are located on to warp, this is a VERY well known problem in consumer electronics( it cheaper to build a thin board than a thicker one), especially in modern guitar tube amplifiers, which share a similar enviroment as the pcb the fets are around in terms of heat. To make a external fet upgrade, all you need to do is bypass their emitters ( what the motor connector is connected to ) a nd connnect the gates of the external fets to the gates of the internal fets, making sure the extrenal fets can be driven directly by logic level input, then you can mount the little heatmakers where you want( can anyone say "hood scoop", "intercooled" )

However, I think the external FET dosen't allow you to run "hotter" motors, only more voltage.

Actually , thats not true, when you say a "hotter" motor, i think you mean current wise, and yes, you can easily find fets in a to-220 package that can handle WAAAAY more current than the stock ones for use in an external fet mod

What about motor turns?

Yes, a low turn motor would draw more current than the stock FET's can handle, and would require an internal or external FET upgrade.

No I meant can the external FET mod handle low motor turns.

The type of motor you can run depends not on whether the fet upgrade is internal or external, but rather on the voltage and current limits of the fets that you use. In the datasheets, which is usually under technical aspects of the product, the manufacturer will tell you what the maximum amount of current a fet can either source( supply + to -, a npn fet) or sink (supply - to +, a pnp fet) the current limit tells you the max winds and turns you can handle, since these produce current draw in a motor. The voltage limit tell you how many batteries you can run max thru the fets look up the threads on winding to understand of turns, winds and gauge of the wire used in the motor affect current and voltage.

for the last time guyz...

u dunt need a fet up grade

the stock fets are good enough they are even better than the external turbo..

dont was ur money..

the only time u need fets is when u are runing like a 25 turn or som'n

well, the point of the fet upgrade is to be able to run what you want without worry, so you can experiment with winds. Even though the stock fets can handle a lot of current doesn't mean they won't heat up, maybe enough to melt solder. Plus, you'll need better fets to run at a higher voltage, you can't force 14v into the radio board and expect it to run.

I guess he told us *laugh*

Actually, if someone were to package Neuro's fet upgrade, I would buy one. Especially if it included a 5v reg and certainly if it included a low voltage indicator or cut off. I'll take the hood off and let the IC stick out the top if I have to.

I could do it, but it would require some good soldering skills. Right now, the only way i've developed requires soldering to the gates of the internal fets, which is surface mount, pretty diffcult.
