Mini Sub

Does anyone else have one of these:

http://www.funtecmodels.com/Microsub/microsub.htm

They are a total blast! I was so amazed back when I got mine at how small the motors were - but now I'm wondering if they are BC-G motors? One of mine seems to have failed, so I'm thinking about attempting to replace them with a matched pair of BC-Gs (3.0 maybe!!). The battery cell seems similar too.

Hi there,

I am familiar with the mini subs. I have never used one, however the LHS I work at has sold them in the past. We had a couple in stock...they sold quickly...then came back quickly. Both of them suffered from motor problems.

I am not sure if this is just a problem stemming from early production difficulties...or if this is common...it happened twice now so i doubt we will be getting any more in for the time being.

Has anyone else had these problems?

Yep, as I posted earlier one of the motors has failed on mine, I'm going to return it to Hitec, will keep you posted on their progress.

I'm going to fathom a guess that the motors are under too much stress spinning rotors underwater.

Another possibility is depth. I don't know much about how 'heavy' water gets as you go deeper, but I've started reading (with some of the newer subs) that they say it's NOT meant to go more that 20inches down

Well the interesting thing about the ones that came back at the store was that both of them had a failed left motor....both failed with in a couple hours of first use as well. I will admit a small water tight motor casing with no ventilation spinning in a rather thick meduim *water*, so it has a constant load on it....does seem to me to be a recipy for failure....but maybe it's just me. I love the concept...but since they have not been around too long and the price is fairly high....I would imagine that Hitec finds them more trouble than they are worth with the high failure rate...hense an early halt to production....still though...you gotta love the idea, I hope this does not stop other companies from trying the micro sub concept.

Interesting; looking at it face-on, mine was the left motor, but it only failed in one direction is what I can't understand. Oh well, it's off to Hitec now, hopefully they can figure it out!

These aren't the same subs. The expensive ones are proportional. The cheap ones are not.
