Races can be won or lost in pit lane. Minimize your motor swap time in the paddocks with this time-saving tip!
Tools needed:
a hand file (one time only) and precision screwdriver for the XMods Chassis screws.
You need the stage 2 kit, or at least the heatsink from it, to perform this mod.
Note: Maybe this has been covered, but I couldn't find it. I did a search.
Short story long:
With the stage 2 kit, you just use the heatsink and 2 screws to mount the motor, instead of the 2 plastic brackets and 4 screws. The motors slide in and out of this heatsink.
Once you have the heatsink installed, you can swap motors out with only 5 screws. The Antenna Screw (you can go without removing it, but I've had to re-solder the antenna wire tab a few times after stressing the solder joint), The 2 upper deck screws that go through the battery clips, and the 2 lower deck screws.
The problem is that the upper deck bracket holds the colored pinions in place.
The mod:
Hack the bracket!
Remove the upper deck bracket, and cut a slight notch in it, enough to let the nub at the top of the "cone" gear through.
to change pinion gear:
Just turn the rear deck upside down and shake the pinion free, slide the new pinion in, Install the motor into the heatsink. You might need to shake the rear deck around a bit when trying to get the driveshaft into it. Re-assemble the rear deck to the chassis and you're good to go!
I am taking pics right now. I'll post them soon, I forgot I don't have my digicam driver installed yet.
