180 Motor upgrade

I used the Team Orion Micro Elite Stock Motor and the 11 tooth pinion gear. same top speed as the 30k 11 tooth upgrade motor. but I has better acceleration longer run times. The motor bairly gets warm.

I got the motor to fit by only taking out the rear motor holders and have no problems yet. The motor does not fit the metal heatsink, but doesn't need it so its ok. I cut come of the stock motor holder alligners to get the motor to fit.

I got the pinion gear off with a hammer and a nail and a pair of pliers. I kinda messed it up slightly, but only the half that doesn't touch any gears so its all good.

I'm thinking of goign to 7.2 V battery pack, but am not sure the electronics can handle it. This motor can handle it though.. Anyone else try different motors.. where is the best place to buy the 42 pitch pinion gears?

7.2V

I'm running 8.7V with no problems, and MANY people are doing the same with their 6-cell mods, so you're safe there.

motor leads

Oh yea. I forgot to say that I have to reverse the motor leads, because the xMOD drive train is backwards than normal rc cars..

Question

so all you did was switch the leads, and modded the holder and pinion and popped it right in?

I have a few questions to ask of you.

Where did you buy that motor? How did you get the motor pinion out of the Xmod motor (be more specific on how you used the hammer) and how did you install the pinion in the new motor?

Also, yes the electronics can handle it. Many people have tried it with success, and it goes great with AWD, IMO.

Chuckster...
