Faster in Reverse than forward? SBP

How's it goin? New to the forum, but long time RC user. Anyway, I recently performed the spinbrush mod using the stage 2 armature and endbell with the sb can. It seems to have a bit more top end in reverse than it does going forward (when held off the ground). Has anybody else experienced this with their sbp?

As well, this motor seems to become relatively hot compared to the standard stage 2 motors. Is this because of the hybrid combo I am using? I guess my concern is, can the ESC handle this setup (Stage 2 arm + endbell w/sb can) with out it burning out?

On a side note, I found an old mabuchi motor from a record breaker (old non rc car from the late 80's? - I'm 28btw and lovin these things) that I plan on integrating into the X. Hopefully results will be good with the 10 tooth pinion. I'll be posting results if I get a chance. Later y'all.

Jamie

xmods like to run motors backwards compared to others like mini-z. the timing must have been set for the other direction. search for the thread advancing timing or something to that effect by neurokinetik. he has a tutorial showing you how to adjust the timing. his pictures shows advanced timing in the proper direction

*Edit*
aahh forget it, here's the link lol http://www.tinyrc.com/forums/showthr...threadid=15954 good luck

He said it is a stage 2 armature. All the Radio Shack motors have neutral timing by default. It's the motors for the Mini-Z and Micro RS$ that tend to have the timing retarded for XMods.

ESC shouldn't have any problem with that combo. It really doesn't draw much more current than the stock stage 2.

Micro RS$. Those things (Like all HPI cars) are quite a rip. I think I put less money into my nitro touring car.

The heat is due to the stage 2 armature. It runs hot, unlike the spinbrush one, and the better magnets may make it hotter (I don't know too much motor magnet theory). I can't figure the reverse problem. Since you're using the stage 2 armature and endbell, it should be the exact same, just with stronger magnets. Unless the magnets' poles are in the wrong place...

Thanks for the replys guys. Glad to know that the ESC should be safe with that combo. Still puzzled on why I'm getting more rpm's in reverse, though. The motor was assembled correctly and in theory, like Nathan mentioned, it should be the same in either direction. Maybe I'll pull it apart again and see if I can do something with the magnets.

Alternately, the other motor I found worked out pretty good. I'm currently running the 11 tooth on it with decent results. Pretty cool having a true mabuchi 130 in there, although I do have to say it is just a tad bit faster than the stage 2. Alright, thanks again guys!

I've noticed on all our Xmods, with stock and swapped motors, they seem to have about 20% more torque in reverse than in forward. My guess is that this is normal, and is used to provide "brakes" for the car.

Just my guess.
