Bit "clones" and ZZ's?
I was in wal-mart yesterday and wondering through the toy section as I always do, I found a car called "motorworks" (anyone heard of it?) it looks just like a bit, it was only $13.88, so I said what the heck and bought it. Ive never owned or seen a bit in person, but this thing flied!! It had lots more torque than my ZZ and was faster than my ZZ with the NOS motor and red gearing!! It had one problem though, it was uncontrolable!! It would spin out almost every turn!! So, I took it apart to check it out. This car has the same size motor (size wise, not rpm wise, have no idea what rpm the motor is) as a ZZ, but the car is the size of a bit, also, the motor is connected to wires instead of being free like the ZZ's the car is not made to be hopped up. The rear axle is connected with a screw and there is no front suspention. One thing I liked about the car is it came with a seperate carger and controller. The controller takes three AA batteries, and the charger takes three AAA's. Anyway, I switched the board with the one in my zz, WOW!! It is sooo much faster, tons of torque, and the ZZ chassis handles lots better than the "motorworks" one did, and im still using the "motorworks" stock motor!! It so fast with the red gearing!!! Im also using the battery from the "motorworks" car, im getting about 4 and a half minutes with it, more than with the ZZ battery. I had to modify the charger slightly to get the ZZ chassis to line up for a charge, but it was easily done by cutting a couple tabs off the charger. Has anyone heard of a "motorworks" car before?? Ive got to go to work now but when I get home im going to try the NOS and turbo motors and experement with different gearing...

Whoa, seems like an easier alternative than getting the Buller board!
Hows the installation? Did it bolt right on?
Is the receiver range longer?
How many Mah was the battery?
Is it possible to unsolder the motor?
what body did it have on it
Thanks! Sorry for all the ?'s

Hello all! Newbie to the board here...
I was also wandering the toy section at Wal-Mart today, and I saw this "Motor Works" mini RC car. In fact, it was the only one they had left. The salesperson told me they had around 50 in stock Friday. For $13.88 I figured, "Why not. I can always give it to the neighbor's kid if I don't like it...".
I just placed an order with Radio Shack for two ZZ's and some accessories which should arrive tomorrow, and I don't own a Bit/MicroSizer yet, so I have nothing to compare it to. But so far this thing is pretty damn cool. It's fast, it handles very good, and has a decent range, (at least 20' indoors). The only time I flipped it was when I ran it on the ceramic tile floor, and it "tripped" over a grout line
It's manufactured/distributed by Planet Toys in Sarasota, FL, and made in China.
I just can't figure out what the body is. It's 49MHz, yellow /w black stripes, a red "54" on the top, has racing decals on the sides, and looks like some sort of import SUV. It would've been nice if they would have at least marked the package with the make/model of the car, but I'm not complaining...
I attached a pic of it in the storage box. I can post some of the car if anyone wants to see it...

Yup, mine was just like that, exept mine had a green body. Switching out the boards wasnt very easy. The steering is different than a zz, the motorworks car has two magnets on each side and the copper thingy attached to the wires is in the middle, and the zz has two copper thingy's on each side, and the magnet in the middle. What I did was take everything out of the zz (board, steering, battery) and swapped it with the same from the motorworks car, the steering took awhile to adjust, I had to superglue the magnets on each side of the chassis, and at first, the steering was too wide, so I dremeled out the chassis slightly so the magnets would be further apart, and it worked. Also, I cut the wires from the motor on the motorworks car, and soldered them to the motor mount on the zz so I could swap motors without having to solder them every time. The stock motorworks motors is pretty fast, about as fast as the turbo zz motor, but the nos is a little faster. Im not sure what mah the battery is, but it is a Nimh. I actually get great range indoors (i never loose range in my apartment) compared to about 7-8 with the zz, and the motorworks controller dont give me "nintendo thumb" like the zz's did. I also ordered some slot car bodies that should be hear be the end of the week.

Are the motorworks 1:64 th scale or 1:80th scale? Can that generic suv body be interchanged with a bit or zz (zz I assume if your planning to use slot car bodies) without excessive cuts and mods? Thanks for any info.

Impressive mod
Wow, I will have to pick up one of these if I find one, they sound like a great deal.
I would love to get more power in my ZZ and make it perform more like my microsizers...though I'm not sure if I could handle the transplant you performed, working with those small parts I'm all thumbs.
Very impressive though!
