27Mhz range shorter than 49Mhz???

Anyone else getting these results?
I've got the 2 Porches.
The 49Mhz one goes all over the house just fine.
The 27Mhx one sputters and stops about 8 feet from me...max.

Gonna try some mods to extend the range soon but is anyone else noticing this?
Is this common? I even bought another 27Mhz one from the local RS (The purple P/T Cruiser) and it has exactly the same range problem as my silver Porche. So back it went.

WTH is going on with these?

Thanks

Actually me and my friend just had the oppsite effect. My 27mhz Zip out ranged his 49mhz Zip. We think it was because we were in the Kitchen and the refrigerator was causing interference. Interesting nonetheless.

now that i finally got to test my range on my 27MHZ ZZ
well..outside...it went as much as 5-6 car links...and im not too sure how much that is..about 50-60 feet...
i couldnt tell if it was moving from far away, it was going too slow maybe..
inside i got about 30ft in a straight line...which is still amazing..cept the fact that i couldnt control it from around the corner..which was kind of weerd

hey i posted the phone antenna mod and there is no i repeat no soldering invovled its a cheap easy mod all you need is a phillips screwdriver and thats it i would suggest making sure the antenna is the one with the squared bottom just so you dont have to make it sqaure it will help a lot and it cost under 4 bucks

What is it whith the 27?

It seems a lot of people are having the same problem with the 27Mhz ZZ. I bought 2 last week (my store didn't even have them on the shelves yet). I got the 49 and gave the 27 to my GF. After a couple of days we noticed that the range on hers was really short and I would have to give her a bump to get her going again. I thought maybe it had something to do with her driving off the table too many time. So today I went out and got a 3rd one. Same prob. I took the first and attached a 2 foot piece of wire (single from pair out of cat5E) coiled it around a 3/16 dowl. It works great, I can hear the little motor running just about anywhere in my house. I'm going to swap the Tx antenna with one from and old, old r/c. I cant run the ZZ with the one I made, the wieght from it affects the car. Sorry for the legnth.

P.S. My house blocks all but the strongest cell phone, but not this 27/ZZ
