Wheel Spacers and Metal Lug Nuts From RS

ok, i took a look at what RS stocked and found a set of washers and a set of nuts. the washers came in a pack of 100, 5 sizes and 20 of each. the nuts were size 2-56 and came in a package of 40.

only the two smaller washers, #2 and #4, can be used. i've used #4, the second smallest washer, as a spacer between the wheel and the bearing. the smallest washer can only fit on the threaded part of the axle so if your axle stuck out a little and dont' want to space the wheel out, you can put these on after you put on the wheel and tighten down the nut on top of it.

just a note, my bearings sit flush with the bearing holder and the middle part of the bearing that holds the axle is flush with the rest of the bearing as well so when using the washers as spacers, dont' tighten the nuts all the way, hand tighten it and adjust until they spin freely.

the stock xmod yellow lug nut wrench works but the socket is too deep, these nuts are like half the thickness of the plastic lug nuts so either put the nut on the axle first then tighten it or put two into the wrench and go from there.

the washers are part number 64-3022 and the nuts are 64-3017

That same washer kit is good for shimming the motor mount so that you can run different pinion/idler gear combinations.

hmmm. friction??

I bought both that nut and washer kit along with a screw kit, so that after I dremmeled off part of my rear body mount, I could use a longer screw, a nut and washer to extend the clip and fit my 6th cell. Maybe I'll try to use the washers on the wheels too... Does it produce any added friction, that'll slow the car down?

only if you tighten it too much. in the rear, i made it fairly snug with three washers but it still spun freely. the front was different though, the tightest i can make it while letting it spin freely (i took out my awd kit) the nut was too loose so i abandoned the wheel spacers up front for now until i put my awd kit back in. the nuts on the front wheels have been tightened all the way and it still spins freely since i didn't use washers up there.

i'm gonna try to look for a thin washer, almost like ring, so that it'll ride on teh axle nicely and push up against the innermost part of the bearing so i can use the washers without causing excess friction
