what r the good sides and the bad sides of adding a 5th cell(AA)

my firend just gave me a battery holder and we have been adding cells but no one here knows the good and bad sides if anyone can help me please post

obviously, the good is from teh extra speed.

now here's teh bad as i see it:
-odd number of cells to charge especialy with xmod battery kit, i like charging all the cells i'm gonna use at the same time so that they're cycled together
-extra weight but that's offset with the speed
-excess wear on electronics and motor (may need heatsink to combat the increased heat)
-the need to play around with locating the battery holder, which may or may not be centered (for instance, if it needs to be placed diagonally to fit) which has, to some extent, some effect on handling due to weight imbalance
-time and effort needed to solder the connections

the only thing that bothers me with adding a 5th cell is reason #1, the odd number of cells to charge. which means i need to buy a pair of similar radioshack brand 700 mah nimh batteries and charge/discharge them so they are a bit matched.

might as well go the extra mile and do 6 cells

Another possible down side is if you ever plan on competing in those R.S. competitions, but I suppose you could just remove the extra batteries for that.

A problem with adding extra cells is the extra weight. If all your going to do is drag race then the extra power it gives you outweighs the weight. However if you plan on going around corners that weight gets shifted around and can cause understeer and oversteer.

When you go fast and turn the wheel the extra weight will still want to go straight. If the cell is far back it might cause the car to spin easier. If the weight is more up front it may cause the car to understeer into the corners or in some cases, since there will be less weight on the rear wheels, a loss of traction in the rear.

This is a big reason why in real life a light car with less power and aerodynamic parts, spoilers and such, is better than a heavy car with lots of power.

However if all you plan to do is drag race then if you put the weight over the rear wheels you'll have both more power and more traction in the rear.

im running the fifth cell on my supra....works great....its mountd in the trunk and hard wired in series...i also hard wired (soldered) all cells and mounted tabs on the +/- ends of the circuit and use an intellipeak charger to do the dirty work.....no problems as of yet...been thru 10 cycles so far. speed is awesome with the stage 2 drift. throttle setting on low, runtimes in the neighborhood of 30 mins....
