What type of masking tape are you using? I would make sure it is pushed down in that door crack really good.

your going to get paint seepage through that masking tape... u need to be using the blue stuff... otherwise it will leak in around the edges....

also only use one large peice of tape for each part u mask

again get the blue stuff

if u overlap it gets harder to get a even line....

I agree, I have experienced paint seepage thru the 3M tape before, not only around the edges, but throughout the whole area. A lot of people have had good results with the blue painter's tape, I personally use Tamiya masking tape.

I've been using the 3M stuff for years. I have no problem with seepage, as long as I rub it down really good, and remember I'm sticking it to glossy paper to print my graphic, peeling it off that, and sticking it to glass to cut it, then peeling it off that, and resticking to the car. Even after all that I rarely get seepage. Just gotta rub it down really good with the back of my finger nail. Also, you should lay a couple light mister coats, before you lay heavier coats. That helps seal the edge of the tape. You don't want tape that sticks too good, because it might pull paint off with it.

But, despite my endorsement, regular paper masking tape of any brand or type is less that ideal for these cars, because it's too thick, and will leave the edges raised up. I lightly sand to help level it. Also because it doen't stretch very well, and has a tendency to wrinkle on contours. I use multiple pieces to avoid the wrinkling.

Ideally you want some masking film from your LHS, or towerhobbies.com. It is a very thin and flexible plastic, making it easier to work with, and giving you nicer crisp clean edges.

thanks again!! i am going to my lhs to get the paint (testers boltted enaml) so i will get the film if they have it too. i have painted modles with this tape and it seeps throught the edge a little, but i dont want to take a chance on this. if i can not find the film then i will use the blue painters tape. what is the exact name of the film or will they know what i am talkiing about?? as for around the headlights, i am taping under the lights (on the front bumper) and the back of the light(on the body). i hope i can get the fade right, i have tried it before with spary paint and it worked pretty well, so we will see. when i take the tape off will it take some of the paint around it off if i am not careful?? i have just paint things with about 2 coats before, so i dont know about more.(i am going to paint this one right with lots of coats)

I know Pactra makes masking film in sheets, and thin pinstripes. Your LHS should carry Pactra, if not, they should at least know what your talking about.
