Ball Diff Behavior
Hi,
I put the AWD drive in my RSX with the ball diff in the rear. Just some questions.
How tight should the ball diff be? When I hold the two front wheels still and turn one of the rear wheels, should the other wheel turn in the other direction? If so, how loose should it be?
Essentially, I would like to know how the ball diff should act. I did try the gear diff in the back and the rear wheels spun in opposite directions really easily. But with the gear diff, when I turn one of the rear wheels, the other wheel doesn't move. I was wondering if some ball diff grease would help.
Thanks,
Ron.

all right. my dad explaned this to me. the ball diff is more of a clutch than a differential. when the front wheels turn one wheel spins faster than the other and the rear diff should slip a little so one will spin faster than the other. therefore it turns like it should. if you put the gear diff in it will hurt your turning a little. (tried it out for myself and it does have a wider turning radius). don't lube the diff. a hard differential also helps lock up the front tires

On the ball diff, if you turn one wheel the other will do one of two things. It will either spin in the other direction, or it will spin the same direction. If the other wheel doesn't move at all, your diff needs to be replaced.

you're thinking of the gear differential. with a ball diff it acts more of a clutch like on the old RC 10s that Team Associated made. the other wheel might spin in the same direction if you hold the diff, but it shouldnt spin the opposite way. it will spin the same direction or not spin at all.

No, I'm thinking of the ball diff.
