Heat Sink???

I have 4 XMODS but only 3 motor sets. This leaves me with more motors to use but I won't have an extra heat sink. Is it okay to use a stage 2 motor without a heat sink??? What is the difference?

sure its ok as long as u dont mind the board overheating and potentially igniting the car on fire. the launch was delayed for a few weeks because the board would overheat even with the heatsink on. they had to re-engineer the board by spliting it in half to keep everything working properly.

They should have come up wth a better heatsink under the ESC/SERVO control board.I look at that and see problems because it is burried in the chassis, to get any better cooling/airflow to it will be difficult.

I'm fairly certain I can come up with a better motor heatsink.

i'm using a stage 2 motor in a skyline without the heatsink upgrade.it runs fine without any overheating problems.
i can add theres not significant diffrence without one there.

In a stock xmod does the car come with a heatsink?

no it does not come with the car it comes with the stage 2 moters

racemini89, you are correct "there is no MOTOR heatsink in a stock Xmod"but there is another heatsink under the ESC/servo PCB.

Geesh hasnt anyone taken a good look at their Xmods.
There are slots in the chassis bottom, there is a rather large (for an Xmod) piece of aluminum sandwhiched in there.There is also a small amount of paste/grease whatever (I cant think of the name) that would help transfer the heat from the motor chip and the servo chip to the aluminum.I think that paste is extremely important for heat transfer.

Finding this in there concerns me as far as being able to safely and repeatedly run 7.2V in an Xmod it might be ok for stock motors but the faster hotter ones might fry it.

I cant take a good look at my xmod. I dont even have one.

lol, its your car... i wouldnt do it because i heared about what was happening to the boards of the cars when they did testing in hong kong. why WOULDNT you put the heatsink in? u think its just there for looks?

I dont think alot of people realize that there is a large heatsink already installed under the ESC/servo PCB, it's there for a reason.(these can generate heat)

A motor heatsink is a good idea people, it keeps the motor cooler which allows it to run more efficently which will keep the current draw down a little.I'm surpized the ESC is not thermally protected.

ya, it was a real scramble to fix all these things so they wouldnt over heat before they shipped.

lol u r very much correct slug. anyone who builds computers and things of a technical nature should know what a big deal heat protection is.

u mean themal grease right? the stuff you have to put on teh processor so it has a definite contact with the heatsink. has anyone tried this stuff on the engine heatsink?

never used thermal grease, only that silicon gel.
