Canadian Micro Grand Prix
Our Company (Porta-Trax) is sponsoring the 1st Canadian Micro Grand Prix at the Canadian Hobby Show in Toronto on the Weekend of November the 8th.
In browsing this and other micro R/C site, I've seen at least 10 people from the GTA area or even Detroit/Windsor area that could possibly enter with Bit Char G size cars. (Of course, racers from any location worldwide are welcome and encouraged to make the trip!)
Here's what we'd propose:
1) The purpose of the event is to have FUN and perhaps get some publicity for the micro R/C hobby.
2) We have already secured a 30' foot booth at the Hobby Show, so all time trials, practice and racing will be held there. This will also afford lots of practice time to get familar with the track and you'll make a great day with family if you wish as this is great show and has been held for 23 years in Toronto.
3) Event will be held on our "show' track (picture attached), complete with digital lap counter. The track is quite functional, yet challenging to run "clean" on (i.e. stay off the rails). Those that have raced on it find it fun, yet a test of driving skill....isn't that what racing is all about? Best lap time so far is 5.18 sec. with a Bit Char G booster set. The Yokomo 1/60 th wasn't far behind.
4)Suggested Format: you can practice anytime on the first two days of the show at any time you like -- giving you a chance to get familar with the track. At the end of your practice run, you will do two time trials (3 minutes) to determine your place on the starting grid.
5) The championship race and any heats will be held the final day of the event (Sunday). There will be one practice race to sort out any frequency problems or other possible glitches. If more than 6 entrants, we will run heats. In the event of frequency conflict, we will resort to individual time trails with the Tomy lap counter (which is really very good at this sort of thing).
6) Trophies and bragging rights to the winner(s). No entry fee!
7) Two classes: (a) Stock: any off-the-shelf Bit Charg G, Micro Sizer. Bit clone or Yokomo 1/60th are welcome. (I'll comment on motor size later on -- suffice to say that 3.0 and even 2.2 won't run well on this track.) (b) Modified: any modified car or larger car that will run on the track (you might even try and epoch 1/43!) Note that Digi-Q's don't seem to work to well on the track as they are just too fast. Clones, Bullets or whatever are all welcome.
Best to run is: Tomy Bit Char G with 2 speed 4-band transmitter (booster set), 1.0 motor cars also run well too but lack the straightaway punch that the booster set offers (I haven't tried 1.6 motor, but it might be the perfect one). Yokomo 1/60th also runs very well. So folks, you've got some choices.
Please post below if you are interested and would like to enter.
We'll make a go/no go decision on October 15th. (We need at least 6 enteries to make this happen.) Hopefully, the site admin will help promote this a little. (In return, please give Tiny R/C the business and order a booster set or a car on a secind frequency from them). You should bring at least two differnt frequencies to lessen the conflict possibilities. The show admin said he'd turn a blind eye to the 35MHz 45MHz or 57MHz bands, so feel free to bring as many cars as you can.
Hope to see you there!
(PS. we may also run a Mini-Z Gran Prix. I'll post that on Mini-z racer, et al next week, but you can also indicate here if you are interested.)

(Tiny R/C if you are willing to promote on your site, we'll make you an "official sponsor" and post your URL on the grandstand of the track. As we're supposed to get good media coverage, this might help you attract some wayward Canadians to your site -- send me an email if you are interested.)

I may be interested, but i would probably get my butt kicked cause my car dont steer no spring.. Would probably have to buy a new car though.. and dont really want to spend the money for a 2speed car and controller.
If i do go i could probably bring a friend or two.. Also i'll post about it on another micro rc site.. theres quite a few ppl with bits in toronto..

I wish you all the best of fun. You won't need any luck. I'll go hit my head against the wall. It will feel better when I stop.
Forget it. I'll start a bit club at school. Yeah, thats the ticket. If I can't go to Canada, I'll show you I don't need you! Have a great time. Whining doesn't suit me, but, a school club might be a good idea. I'm open to suggestions. BAE
