Do motors just "wear out" after a while?
Yesterday my 3.8 would get locked up like there's a dead spot on the commutor or something.. Once it was moving, it was fine, but once in a while you'd stop and it'd just refuse to move. all the other motors work fine. I tried it with different gear sets and it's not gear binding. pick it up and hold forward and nothing, but if you'd rotate the wheels the slightest bit manually, or give the car a nudge, it's running like gangbusters again. This is a BitChar-G Motors 3.8. It ran fine for a while, till yesterday. Is this just normal?
By the way, I bought the motor about 11 months ago, but packed up the whole Microsizers and Zip Zap thing shortly after that, this motor probably has less than 50 runs on it, as I use it mostly for drag races and straightline timed runs. When I'm not drag racing, I'm running around on my desk at work, using the 1.6 motor with 12:1 Axles. Occasionally I'll drop my ZipZaps "Nos" motor in and go to the server room because it has a nice flat floor. The car flips over when turning with anything faster than the NOS (equivalent to something like a 2.5 motor I believe)
The only other thing I can think of is the fact that the last 5 or 6 runs I made with it were in my new Microsizers Pro, and since almost all the runs I made with it in the pro were drag races across a gym floor (probably 100 feet, I know, should have been 20), I was pretty much on turbo mode the whole time. Is it possible that the M/S Pro killed the motor?

try turning the motor around under the heatsink. it probably doesn't have a good connection.

will moters live to a particular time. if that moters a perfection 3.8 it only has 580 hours of living then it just dies like K.I.T racer battries only last 100 charges. so if its a perfection 3.8 and you think u have drove it for 580 hours its dead. or there could be somthing wrong with your battery like it dieing thats what happened to me i had the best car then the moter started screwin up but m moter was fine it was the battery. or there could be somthing wrong with the conection on the electric board like the wire that operates the foward motion might be fallen out so anyway chaeck out all that stuff and hope your car works.

I've looked at every option and I've isolated it to my 3.8 motor. All my other motors work fine, my battery is new, but I also pulled the 150 mAh battery from the old microsizer (bought it from here or some other store). It's not the battery, the wiring, the axles. It's the motor. I guess I'll just get a replacement one. I know I didn't run the motor for 100 hours, much less 500+
Oh well.

it just seems like some motors just...die all of the sudden. bit char-g motors brand and some clone motors are made with the same construction I think, and a lot of my kick-ass clone motors just..decide to quit and start running like a 1.0 after awhile. I dunno what happens...sorry man

Try charging it and running it a few times. ^
I have a clone that I haven't used for 2-4 months and I charged it and ran it a few times and it got faster and faster.

I always thought that meant you could hop it up with future parts and faster motors...but hey

Yeah they will wear out. The brushes may wear and not press as much. They may just break!

This is why I think they should use spring loaded ball bearings in most motors instead of brushes. Probably use the ball out of a ball point pen for Bit or MS motors.

InGan, I agree with you. I still have yet to see outstanding stable motors. They all seem to be somewhat weak.
ax0n, the pro may have killed the motor. Especially if it's dual celled. The voltage pulsing that an unboosted pro puts out, rips up motors quickly. That's one reason tomy likes to put 2.2s in their booster cars, because the 2.2 is one of their most stable motors and still somewhat fast. The 4.2 pro from perfection is the only thing I've seen that was made for the 2 speed cars. You might try loobing the gears and motor up. Sometimes that can revive a motor. Don't use wd-40. It attracts dust. Try to find something that repels dust. Or you could also try hooking it up to a 3 volt battery. Dont do it in the car. Sometimes the higher current and voltage (without the resistance on the pcb) knocks dust and crap loose inside the motor. That doesn't work that often though, and if it does, then they'll die kinda soon anyways.
